I don't know what happened.
I pulled out my EWOK and the sunlight caught a glint off the edge. It was chipped, or maybe just dinged on part of the edge. It was a small ding, less than 1mm, but enough to catch my eye. I don't know about the other knuts here, but I'm constantly checking my edges.
So I run my thumbnail down the edge to be sure that my eyes aren't deceiving me, and sure enough, the edge is dinged. The rest of the edge is razor sharp.
I'm racking my brain to figure out how I dinged the edge--nothing. I can't recall lending the EWOK to anyone, didn't cut any metal...did I drop it?
I hate this. The not knowing how I screwed it up. How can I avoid doing it again? Grrrrrrr....
Anyway, I pull out the big Norton stone and set to grinding it out. Just worked it back and forth until I got a burr and then flipped it over to repeat. Once the ding was worked out, I went to a fine diamond stone and then a strop.
I should probably use a guide for consistent results, but I really like free-hand sharpening: feeling the edge slide over the stone. I feel more connected to the knife.
Anyway, a little stropping later and the EWOK is ready to shave again. This a a great little pocket knife and is a real joy to use. Now I just need to avoid chipping it again.
