Hey Chiro...After seeing the work you and Normark did for Multi-tools I tried my hand at the Original Leatherman and this is what I ended up with...

This sheath takes advantage of the clamshell design to provide secure retention with a satifying "snap" on withdrawl...

I'm rather proud of it really...You would think a Leatherman would be easy to sheath because of it's simple shape, but it took more than a few prototypes before I came up with this, and the work continues to make it better (cosmetic changes...)

I posted some news about Running Dog on the "What's New" forum if you are interested...

Off to a show this weekend, I'll catch up with everyone next week...

Hey Mike....

Looks pretty cool...
I like it..

Hey I've made my fair share of prototypes,,got a huge box filled with them...So I know what you mean...

Although the Leatherman looks easy to do as it is a simple shape, it requires the right amount of tension in the right places to get it to hold properly. Took me awhile to figure that out,, but have it pretty much down to a science now...

Matter of fact,, I just made two horizontal sheaths for Leatherman knockoffs last night. One for my boy and the other for his friend who is coming over tomorrow...
Kids love this stuff..

I use a Thumb break system, thats so simple even a child can use it,, but it doesn't fall out,, thats the neat part...

Good looking sheath Mike...

What type of belt loop did you use on it,, can't see it very well ??

ttyle Eric....

Thanks Normark...

Aw yes the "clip"! Such a small item but so important to everyone...

I use two designs for the most part...The one on the Leatherman sheath is a simple fold over...the side view shows this best...The inside edge does a good job of grabbing the seam on clothing...this belt loop has some play in it and will work with different thickness belts...

This seems to be the biggest problem with a hard loop, the fact that it has little room for accomidating a wide range of belt sizes...

The other one is the multi-carry clip or three way clip...this works well for strongside but can be a bit loose for crossdraw...One answer...just a sec while I take-this-off...Here!

Note the clip at the end to hold the knife in place for the draw...The belt loop also pinches in at the top a little and could be made wider for more "grab"...It's a trade off with the look...This product has more production steps than the sheath itself

Now I'm sure you know about the Tech-Lok from Blade-Tech...
www.runningdogknives.homestead.com/teclok.html

The good news for us everyday users is that they are coming out with a new smaller version...I plan to use this product as soon as I can get any...This will add about $5 to the price of the sheath, but will be a great carry option (and make life easier for me).

As you can see, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I call "clips" More than I want to really...
