Hi Fella's

I been lurking this forum from time to time. I like Khuks but there has always been another knife I wanted more. The size of the Khuk would give me very limited usage except about the yard. My neighbors would most likely freak. :) So I just never bought one.

A few days ago Pala's sale on the Chiruwa AKs was more than I could take so I emailed Uncle Bill and ordered one. Seems like this Khuk is really a chopper. Now comes the realization that I might need a finer blade Khuk for my "bump in the dark" knife. Is this a bad sign? Did it start this way with you?

Am I in trouble? :D

Yep. That is how it begins, But who knows how it will end.

Welcome to the Cantina, Greymoor!

Keith

MOOO-HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAaaaaa.....!!!

Congratulations. You have just contracted HIKV.

Welcome to the Cantina. It's a bit like the Hotel California: steely knives, never leaving and all... :D

Wait til you get one that communicates with you on the subconscious level.

I've got one khuk that if you really scared me I'd finally stop running and look down at my right hand and ask: "What is that khuk doing in my hand? I don't remember drawing it! And why is there blood on it?"

I kid you not.

Welcome. You are in for a treat. I have found these guys to be some of the nicest people I have associated with. They are patient and knowledgeable. And yes, you better start saving your pennies and hang on.

That's the way it starts. The first two khuks that I bought were going to be all I was going to get. All I thought I wanted was one chopper and one for defense. What a crock. Now there are twelve and counting.
Welcome to the Cantina Greymoor. The comment about the people here at this forum is pretty accurate. That is why this is the only forum that I regularly visit. Like every night when I turn the computer on. Check email and go home.
Hope you enjoy this place as much as I do. If so, you won't lack for friends. For having folks from all over the world in the forum, this is a pretty tight group. God Bless:) :D

No, that's ok. Everything is fine. You have no problem, it's just you aren't used to holding the khuk, but you look sooooo good with it! Are you a model? Nice image, and so utilitarian...but you know, maybe a sirupati in oh say, 15 inches...would highlight your regal profile.... And it would be a small thing, really...just one more edged tool...not an indulgence, but really, a necessity if you think about it.

That's it. Go look at the HI shopping site. Nice, eh? browse...it will be all right. After all, what harm can looking do?

Here's a little something a nice man named Pendentive did for you. Research really, not meant to bring you in, just for your information. Take a look, it's all right. Everything will be fine.

My "bump in the dark" knife is an 18" Gelbu Special, with an Everest Katana for backup. :D If really did hear a bump in the dark, I'd probably grab the SIG first, though.

My Chiruwa AK is waiting at the post office. I pick it up in a few hours!

Welcome to the greatest forum on the 'net. Uncle Bill, Rusty & the boys won't steer you wrong. There is a lot of experience on this forum, not only with khukuris, but life. You won't find a better place to hang out. Your Chiruwa is an awesome blade. In over 11 years of dealing with Uncle Bill, I have never gotten a bad one, or been given bad advice. These are absolutely the toughest knives I have ever used. I've abused a few of mine, & they take it & come back for more. I really like the fact that each one is handmade, & each one different. These blades are just amazing.

I just got my Chiruwa AK today and I must say I am impressed by the quality. With 1/2in. thick 5160, I'm not too concerned about the strength :)

Does anyone know who R. R. is? He uses a buddhist cross to mark the blade as well.

Thanks,
Mark

Welcome! It all starts with one. Then one more, and one more etc, etc...:). Enjoy!
Mike
P.S. My bump in the night tool is a 12 gauge :D.

You'll find uses. What do the neighbors know. Actualy, you might need multiple "bump in the dark knives". In trouble??? Not at all. Eventualy, one will call out to you, "I'meant to be your blade. Take me home." That's when you're in trouble. And by the way, welcome.

Hello Gents,

The AK arrived today and I must say that is quite a hunk of steel. Here are a couple of pics . . .

The Khuk and it's friends

And a close-up of the Kami marks

I could not quite match the marks to a Kami because the initials are different from the symbol. Any one has any ideas who made this?

I will have to "play" with this one a bit before I can get to know it. Being the middle of winter here, as spring does not show up till the end of April, I don't have any brush clean up chores to try it out on. I will keep you posted...

BTW What tweeking do you guys do to your Khuks and the companion tools?

edited to shrink the pics down to help the people on dial-up :)

Wow that thing looks beautiful: like the pointy parts on the handle were rounded off for human ergonomics!

Gunsmiths do that with pistols, though I forgot what the term was. 'Dehorning' maybe?

Picked up my new Chiruwa AK today finally (of course it had been waiting since Saturday, but I don't think the postman even tried to bring it to the house since I'm never there on weekdays), and of course it looks great. Very nice solid work, looks exactly like Greymoor's pictures. Kumar's mark but KM initials? Oh well... The one thing that grabbed me was it has a very large handle compared to my other Bura Chiruwa. I haven't compared to my other khuks yet, but I think it may be the second biggest handle I have, only the 22" GRS would be bigger. Perhaps the Sanu 18" AK would be close, I'll have to see. But it is definitely a western-size handle.

Thanks Uncle Bill and crew!!

I think K.M. and a 6-point star = Kumar, even though it is supposed to be K.B. I think he's just signing his stuff differently, now. Someone also got a K. (star) M.

My new BAS (first HI product) also says K.M. with the star.

I pretty much thought that it must be Kumar's work but I wanted to make sure. Some how knowing who made it and having seen his picture gives my Khuk more "life" for me. Is this strange? ;)
