I am still thinking of buying myself a Chiruwa Ang Khola. The other day I found myself wondering, does the CAK have a pommel (buttcap) that is flat and suited to use as a hammer for driving tent stakes and such?

Thanks

Nope usually a tad rounded and either brass or white metal/brass. Mainly its there to keep the handle from chipping out or cracking if the knife landed there.
A rock or piece of firewood would be better than the butt of a CAK for driving stakes. Might also try the spine of the CAK for driving tent pegs.

Hmm... Out of curiosity, do you think they'd be able to do a custom one with a hammer pommel? Anyone ever have one made that way?

It's a CAK. You could just use the side of the blade to slap in the tent stakes.

Those are both options, but personally if you're wanting a kukri to have that sort of functionality, you could always ask for something with a Malla-esque spine (i.e flat instead of V-shaped). CAKs generally have a 1/2" thick spine which gives plenty of room for hammering/batoning should you feel the need.

Personally though, if you just want to drive in some tent pegs, I don't see why a rock wouldn't suffice...

Instead of using a baton to beat my blade through a piece of wood to split it, one of the things I do instead is use it to drive stakes.

If you have poor aim, you can lay the blade flat on the tent stake, and hit it with the baton.

The M-43 has a flat butt, also the giant Seax. That said, tent stakes are harder steel than the spine or butt of a kuk, so the latter will deform on impact slightly. I would use a rock if available.

Yeah the Khukri isn't well suited for that... I have a Garud full tang AK, and it's extremely ergonomic, though I wouldn't go as far as saying practically durable enough to use for bashing routinely. I use a Camillus Pilot Survival Knife as a companion to my Khukri right now, that's a good way to go-the bolt pommel was designed for use as a hammer.
