I am looking for a villager, between 18-22 inch with the reinforced handle like the Chiruwa Ang Khola. Does anyone know if they make them in Villager style and where to get them or do they only appear as blems?
any info would be great.
Thx
Mongo, I know that CAK's in any size over 16.5" are very rare. BigJim had the first and only 20" CAK, and there may have been one more sometime in the last 4 months. There were one or two in 18". The reason they are probabaly so rare is that they weigh a ton. The "reinforced" handle adds weight and vibration while chopping. The M43 has that handle but has never been made as a villager IIRC. (BTW, I have a CAK at 26.5" by Sher that comes in at a svelte 73 oz. Should have been about 3 to 3.5 pounds max, so have not a clue what he was thinking. I sure wasn't and didn't do the math or I wouldn't have bought it. Pretty knife though...)
I can understand about you just wanting one, but any Samsher or Junge that comes in at 20" or AK or WWII that comes in the 18" range will serve you just as well with less weight. Remember that an 18" knife will be at or near 2 pounds, depending on the model, and that can get tiring after a while. With HI's "No BS" warranty to the original owner you don't have to worry if you do have a problem in any case, as Yangdu will always make it right.
Also, the YCS comes with a Chiruwa handle, and every once in a great while so does an 18" WWII.
Since you could wait many years before seeing any kind of knife with a chiruwa handle in that size and be first on it in a daily deal, least of all a Villager, you are best off writing Yangdu with your specs. Please note that not all knives on the Deals of the Day are blems. Many are regular first run production. In fact, most are.
You could simply ask for an 18" YCS with Villager treatment (I think that would be a first), or an 18" WWII Villager with Chiruwa handle. I have been after a chiruwa WWII for a long time, but have come to the conclusion that I will just have to special order one if I really want one.
You are asking good questions. Since the WWII is one of the models that is so often suggested as a great "first khukuri", I would suggest you ask Yangdu if she can get you an 18" WWII Villager, which is pretty common, but with the chiruwa handle you want. She is suffering supply problems now, but I know will try and help.
Good luck.
