I recieved my UBBB Chiruwa Ang Khola today and thought I would share some photos with you all. Firstly I'd like to say (as a first time HI buyer) that the quality and "feel" of this knife far exceeded my expectations and I would highly recomend it to anyone who is looking for a 15" 28 oz Khuk, its compact nature combined with its moderate weight make a superb combination. Here are some shots of it compared to my cheap workhorse Khuk (16" 1.25#) that I've used for about 10 years. The Chiruwa has a better balance and heft comparitively, as well as having a much better sweet spot. No comparison is needed on material quality and construction.

Now that the knife isn't handicapping me I'll really be able to get some chopping done :)

Quite a difference between the two isn't it? That wood handled thing was my first exposure to khukuris also. Needless to say, there is no comparison.

BTW, welcome to the Cantina.

It was one of my first acquisitions too and I destroyed it by chipping ice out of my old refrigerator. The buttcap fell off and the handle scales became so loose I couldn't maintain any control of the blade [I called it a blade?]. :barf:

Thanks for the welcome :)
Yeah the difference is unbelievable, I expected the difference in quality of materials and craftsmanship, its the little things such as the way it fits my hand, the balance, and the subtle difference in blade curvature that are the most surpising to me in the difference that they make in a finished product. Its the difference between a knife being made for the sake of selling knives and a knife made to be beautiful and functional

Uncle Bill hasn't been around as much as he used to so I took it upon myself to pick up some of the slack.

How about...

Thanks for the good report from the field.

:D

I'm with you on this one, RandallRandazzl!
I just picked up a 16.5" Chiruwa Ak UBBB last week. Its my 5th HI and of all the khuks I own, i believe demands the most respect. It has the typical Kumar thin (but very strong) edge and chops circles around my Shanker 15" AK with it's very thick "masher" edge as well as my 18" Kumar WWII. I know a lot of forumites don't really care for the chiruwa handles, but I rather like how it shifts the weight of the khuk back to the handle slightly. Plus it just looks really cool:D Now i just have to find a use for it!

A _use_ for it? You mean we can't buy them unless we have a use for them? Damn, I'm in trouble! So far, mine have just sat around looking cool...

;)

Svashtar

You're OK, Svashtar. 'Looking Cool' is definitely a use. I use some of mine to keep the dust off of others

Hi Randell,

I too have a "workhorse" elcheapo kukri that looks EXACTLY like the one you have. There must be thousands of them around the world.
I also have since bought an 16in chiriwa from HI and there is no comparison.

I have a photo that looks like the one you have posted.

cheers
