How much weight would it take to bend a Chiruwa !!

I was reading some reviews I found on google and basically the response was that the AK's laughed and bending test. If one were so inclined would it be possible to lodge the blade perpendicular into something and stand on it. When I had my Chiruwa I had a mate stand on it and I lifted him - he was about 15 stone and he thought the knife would snap - it didn't !!

;)

The Cold Steel "Proof" video shows 3 or 4 normal sized guys hanging off one of their 3/16" thick knives. The AK is generally thicker so I figure a churiwa AK should be able to hold at least 3 or 4 fat guys.

I have this pretty beefy Chiruwa AK that I wanted to test. Did the usual chopping and then I found a downed tree with a big crack in it:D. Stuffed the Chiruwa in the crack and started to balance on it, both hands on top of the handle holding on in a frog hop position;). Put all my weight on it(250lbs at that time). I think I even stood on it at one time. I even started to bounce a little but stopped that immediatly. The Chiruwa was not going to bend but felt like a spring. Started to bounce me off the handle. I did the same test to an 18.5" Chiruwa with the same result. I think it would be pretty hard to bend one.

is knife for cutting thinks, is not knife for spronging up and downs on.

Many of the knives carried by Native Americans, fur trappers, and mountain men in America's "Frontier Period" were not much more than butcher knives, with blades right around 1/8" thick. Survival was not a "what if" to them, it was an everyday reality. So, yup, Kis has a very good point, knives are for cutting. Khuks combine the qualities of a knife and an axe with their chopping power, but I still don't view their inherent sturdiness as an invitation to abuse. Besides, the first time one does "let go" in close proximity to a human body, the results could be disastrous.

Are we still talking about chili or was that a different thread?

The kamis could just send you a leaf spring and save all of that work.:)

Bruise should send them a wood model of the leaf spring so they can see just what he has in mind.

Different thread Bruise, the chili's just fine as long as you don't sit too close to the campfire.

I'm just wondering about Brendan's ability to lift a 210-pound man into the air with just a knife blade! I see his avatar is not ill-chosen

I realise that Brenden is only 210lbs but just slipping and hitting the edge would be disasterous.
Just remember what your mothers said "It's all fun and games until someone loses their head."

If you want to bend an AK: Put it in a heavy duty vice mounted on a heavy steel bench -- preferably a welder's table of 1" thick steel plate 4x8 feet. Stick a lengh of 6 or 8 foot pipe onto the khukuri and pull like hell.

They can be bent but not easily! But they don't break, they bend, and you can bend them back straight again and they keep on working.

places, lurks Mister Cliff Stamp, tester-to-death of all edged tools, physicist, and sharer-of-knowledge-of-the-tests-to-death-of-all-edged-tools.

In his exotic clime, he has destroyed more edges than most manufacturers have made. As I remember, he attempts right-angle bends on some knives.

(I'm thinking it was a childhood trauma that led him to this practice.)

Nice man.

If you can find the seach link in the Forums, he's probably done the unthinkable to whatever you have.

Cliff tried to destroy an ugle little 12" AK I sent him -- too ugly to sell. He failed -- and if Cliff can't destroy it nobody can.
