thought i'd find a post on this from before, but don't see one.

i'm wondering what people think about the relative merits and demerits of the 16.5" CAK vs. the regular 15" AK.

i gather with the full tang, the balance is going to be less tip forward with the CAK and there may be more percussive forces in the handle when striking. i likewise assume that the tang of the AK is more prone to failure, at least theoretically -- but i'm wondering how many people have actually gotten an AK tang to fail.

any other thoughts about differences in structure, toughness, or handling?

i used to be a sucker for full tangs and was drawn to the CAK, but i ended up with a 15" AK. it's served me well, but now a friend is getting one and i'm trying to offer advice.

You won't break the tang of an AK. Not byh hand, anyway.

As you say, the weight will be more forward on the AK than the CAK.

Some say there is more vibration transferred through the tang of the CAK, or any Chiruwa model, but I do not find that to be the case for me.

I think the Chiruwa style feel more lively in hand, due to a more neutral balance, and it makes a good snap cut easier for me. For swinging like a hatchet, the standard AK would be better.

In theory the same length AK would weigh less than a CAK, but there is so much variation between models, you can't count on that.
