Chiruwa Handle Question

I just got my chiruwa WWII, and I noticed that the handle slabs appear to be sealed around the edges with laha (?) It apears to have come away from the tang a tiny bit leaving a little crack line, and I was wondering about the best way to seal it. Will epoxy work? What about super glue? Is it better to just leave it the way it is?

Thanks, Sarge, will do. I was thinking that melting the laha might be a good thing because it would seal the gap better, but I prefer epoxy because it seems stronger.

I figure I'd gently squeeze the handles together on a vise first. The handles could have moved or gotten a little loose during shipment. You might even want to tap a little on the pins with a hammer before melting the laha.

I don't know anything. I just like vices and hammers.

Hey, Bruise, good idea, bot I don't think the problem is that major. If I take a hammer to it, it will almost certainly make it worse. I can just imagine smashing one of the horn scales. I think I'm just gonna fill it with epoxy and call it good. If it worsens over time, I may resort to pounding.

Not pounding with a hammer :( . Tap with a ballpeen on the pin with a pinlike object on the other side.

Uncle Bill once said "Wrap it with tape and use it for 100 years no problem."

:D

Hello Josh Feltman,

I have 4 AK Chiruwas and the same problem on 2 : it's nothing. Not pounding with a hammer! Just fill with epoxy and pumice it with sanpaper to clean it. After this little work you will have no problems!

Regards,
Stephen Nery.

I'd suggest you send it to Bruise for rework. A vice and five pound hammer can do wonders for horn handles.
