Is it safe to assume that if the handle doesn't have the metal pins in it then it isn't a chiruwa handle? (ex the D-1 or the Jiri model)

As far as my experience goes, yes its a safe assumtion. I don't think there is any model in the HI lineup that has the scales attached to a full tang handle without pins/rivets.

Actually, I can't remeber seeing a full tang handle with the scales just glued to the tang done by any maker.

Well even full tang knives that don't have visible rivets still tend to have them underneath (I can't recall any particular models off the top of my head)... however, I doubt that HI would bother to do this as it's time-consuming and really doesn't add much to aesthetics.
