I think some chiruwa sirupati khukuris have been sold by HI. What confuses me is why there isn't more demand for them.

Also, would a chiruwa sirupati fall under the "Field Use" category or only "General Use" like the standard sirupati?

Also, what is the most popular sirupati size? I imagine that would be the one to make a standard chiruwa sirupati in. Maybe 20"?

It would be a "general use" khukuri. If it is not specifically mentioned in the "field use" list in the warranty, it is a "general use" khukuri and is not warranted for chopping wood. The more ornate the khukuri, the less it is meant for usage.

It's not warrantied for field use but that doesn't mean it won't perform. I have two sirupati and use one religiously in the yard to chop down brush and large weeds as well as 1 1/2 inch branches. I haven't used it to chop into too many logs but I'm sure it will perform there too. Just don't expect it to be as capable as one of the field use designs and and remember what it is warrantied for so no crying if you damage the sucker while you work or.. play.

Fair enough. Even so, I'd still love to see a 20" chiruwa sirupati become a HI standard item. Maybe I'm just crazy, though.

All of these questions about Chiruwa tang khukuri's lately makes me wonder if people REALLY think they can use a HI khukuri hard enough to loosen or destroy the normal peened tangs.

I sincerely doubt it :D

Well, that's not the reason I like chiruwa tangs. My reason is that if I need/want to rehandle it, I trust myself to do a better job with the chiruwa. Also, none of the tang needs to be ground off or otherwise removed to rehandle a chiruwa tang khukuri.

the decoration on the sirupati isnt going to stand up to hard use

notice how one of the brass inlays has fallen out on mine
and the edge is made finely for slicing, so keep that in mind before you try to pry with it or some other hard use that needs a thick edge
but I wouldn't be afraid to take it to green wood, delimbing and such, its even a decent chopper, but the shape and design is optimized for slicing and should be used for mostly that

Well, perhaps a chruwa sirupati without the inlays, etc. I'm thinking that the same fit and finish as a CAK would be appropriate.

Gomipile,

From what you mentioned and actually having an ASTK in the list, look around for a Chiruwa Chitlangi or Gelbu at about 30Oz or less.. It will surprise you in many ways.
MOST of the time it's just too beautiful to use...buy hey you will never know how good until you use it.

To you another question, Sirupati is a martial artist blade and you want it to be lively.
Chiruwa Siru IMHO is way too heavy.
