My brother has been talked into HI by me and wants a full tang Tarwar. Have there been any made? Or should I contact Yangdu and place a custom order? Pics would be very helpful!
Thanks,
Sawyer

Oh man, a chiruwa tarwar would be INCREDIBLE! If you end up getting one custom made, please-please-please post pics!

I can't see how it would be any better than the three I have now but if that is your thing, by all means email Yangdu and ask for one to be made.
Tarwars rock, they are the best of the swords IMO and I can't imagine breaking mine unless I went around smacking rocks. ;)

For sure though, post up some pix if you have one made...

I wonder how the chiruwa tang would alter the balance and feel of the blade? For better or worse or just different handling characteristics? Sure would be interesting to find out. If one gets made, I hope you will write impressions! :)

Well, thanks for all of the responses! He has changed his mind about the tarwar and now wants an ASTK instead. He thinks he will use it a little more. Oh well, he'll be happy with either coming from HI! Thanks again!

gimme a second and I will post a picture of the two pieces next to each other for him... :)

and here we are!

And of course, here they are in hand too because folks dig those ;)

Give me these two and an R-10 and I'll go out into the woods and build a cabin.

Really, really, really want a Tarwar now!

The in the hand photo combined with that of the measure gave me a great indication of scale which has just put the Tarwar on the top of my HI sword 'to get' list. Thanks Warty!

That is the one made by Young Sher too, I have my two Buras put away for safe keeping. :)

This is my user and the one I bought first. I do have several other HI swords, a Dukti, Short Tibetan and a Der Hauswehr and of all of these, only the Tarwars are not for sale. I would sell any of the others for what I paid for them if someone asked me. The Tarwars though would take a premium added to what I paid for them, a considerable one, to get me to let loose of them.

I always wonder why folks don't put something of known size into the pictures for scale more often here.
It really does help to make things clear, more so than in hand shots do for sure...
In hands are good too but what if I am huge with monstrous hands?
How would you know and what would an in hand picture tell you???

I am not huge, I am big but not huge. :) only 5'10" (they took an inch out of my back in the last operation the bastids) and 260# but stocky rather than a big blob. (though I was a big blob when I weighed 420#, no doubt about that at all and I am glad to be rid of that other person that was carrying around too) I do have fairly large hands but not so big that in hand shots would be messed up

I've found though purchase and trial that grips with a circumference of less than 4inches suit my smaller hands the best. Tis a pity when many examples in my collection (Bhutan, Giant Chitlangi Bowie, Uddha, and Bhariab) exceed this considerably, but since I have enough users (Indonesian, Manjushree, and 25inch Kobra) I can allow some of the others to remain unblemished examples of the Kami's metal and wood working magic. :D

Sadly Warty, got you beat in the weight stakes, exceed your old score by a considerable amount, and despite everything, its not coming off.:(

Lucky vegetation does not take to foot when approached and I don't have to run after it as I would if hunting. :p

Wow! Thanks a lot Warty!!! I'll show these to him tomorrow! One of these days I'll get used to the ridiculous level of general awesomeness of HI forumites I hope! Thanks!!

I'd be happy to take your Giant Chitlangi Bowie off your smaller hands if you need me to B.C... ;)

No worries Sawyer, glad to help and I hope it does.

Ok, so my brother decided he wanted a full-tang Tarwar! I placed my order to Yangdu on the 7th, and she was as great as always to do business with. Now my brother and I would like to know if anyone else who commissioned a custom project the time table to receiving it? Thanks!!!

I can't speak on having custom work done, but i can BEG for pictures of this incredible sounding tarwar! Please, for the love of everything sharp and pointy, if you can take measurements and plenty of pictures when you get it, I would forever be indebted to you.

I'd definitely be willing to sell my Bura standard finish tarwar to finance the purchase of a full tang villager finish tarwar.

Honestly, I think you are wasting you time with a full tang and worrying about nothing but it will be his to use.
I don't think he really understands how over built these things really are and what a hidden tang means on an HI product.
If you can break the hidden tang, you'll break the full tang, they re one in the same strength-wise.

I don't know Warty, I have a hard time divorcing that much extra metal from extra strength. You're probably right though, i can't imagine an event in which the hidden tang would break, but a chiruwa just narrowly shoulders the abuse. Still, it's a comfort thing being able to see more structural bolstering.

Also, I think that the extra weight in the handle would offer a better balance. The tarwar is a bit blade heavy, so dropping the balance down some would be of some benefit.

I agree. Hidden-tangs have been around for a LONG time... and they've worked perfectly fine. In fact many blades' balance and heft is based on a hidden tang style, when made into a full-tang the feel is different, not worse just different. Full tangs have their perks in terms of being much more robust... but when you have good steel and a quality blade with skillfully put together fittings, full tangs just aren't necessary... But hey, some folks prefer it, and they can be more robust in terms of structure...

By the way Warty, that ASTK is calling to me. That's saying a lot since it's been a long time since I've wanted a kukri. They aren't normally my blade preference, though I give them full credit in terms of their capabilities. Maybe someday I will get an ASTK and test it out. I like the look of it more than the M43... I like as much as I like the Hanshee.... :)

I explained about the toughness of HI blades, as well as the balance change of a full tang. He wanted to have the balance less blade heavy and chose to custom order a full tang. Either way he's never gonna be able to hurt it!

Hey sawyermullen, I posted a visitor message on your profile! I just had a couple of questions but didn't want to crowd the thread.
