This review is still a work in progress and it won't really involve any experience with using the sword, just an initial impression. Pics to come in about 2 hrs when I figure out my camera memory card.

First impression: WOW! This thing is huge and heavy. Almost 36.5" OAL and exactly 5 lbs with scabbard (4.5lbs for just the sword).
The handle is over 10" of gorgeous wood and about an inch of bolster extension into the handle, the blade over 26". The edge is sharp and hard everywhere up to about 1-2" from the bolster where you get a little ricasso part. The spine is uneven but mostly 3/8" throughout. almost all the way to the tip.
The tang is about 5/16" to 1/4".
Solid construction and nice heft. I wouldn't use it for martial applications yet as I am too intimidated by the no-margin-of-error factor, but I might chop up an old chest of drawers I have later instead of an ax.

Pictures to come very soon...

Hmmm - too bad you don't have a non-chiruwa one to compare it to for balance and such. I would think that chiruwa would be a tad excessive for this design as far as added handle integrity goes, but I'm sure the added weight in the handle makes the balance a bit more neutral and perhaps easier to swing around.

Looking forward to the pics! Until then, this is it in the background correct? Taken from the Shop Puja Pictures:

I have two Tarwars and frankly I find the balance on them to be perfect as is and they are also most sturdy. I really do want to see the pix though and want to see how it performs because I am open to new things and want to see what this will do that mine wouldn't.

Tarwar standard length is 29" I believe. So what you have has some similarity to a Long Tibetan - the length and the full tang. Yours weighs 72 ounces while the Long Tibetan seems to average between 50-55 ounces.

Unless the two Chiruwa Tarwars have similar handles, that Tarwar is currently happily awaiting my brother's return from college resting on his desk. Yangdu was as incredible as always in politeness, speed, and amazing-ness! Thanks again!

you can actually see both Chiruwa Tarwars in that picture, one with a handle and the other without...

You sure it's 4.5 pounds?
My regular Tarwar isn't anywhere close to that. I can't imagine a Chiruwa handle adding that much weight.

where are the darn pix of this thing already! :D

I am thinking I might order one only fullered...

did I mistype something... I said I am thinking I might order a chirra-ed, chiruwa Tarwar...

I haven't done it yet at all... :) by all means order one and I will check yours out.
I don't claim any right to the first one or anything... ;)

Sorry for the delay, just moved places and was missing my camera-USB cable.
The pictures are with a 20" Giant Seax for scale (and my girlfriend's Spyderco Dragonfly Tattoo if you can find it)

That thing is amazing! a fullered version would be very cool too -- i never thought of a fullered tarwar. Thanks for the picks! like i said: utterly amazing!

And here are some pics out in the sun... with a (seemingly tiny) Chiruwa Chitlangi for comparison and pure aesthetic enjoyment
