Chisel grind on a mini CQC7A?

I just received a brand new Mini CQC7A. It has a chisel grind on it not a conventional V grind.
EKI's website states the 'B' Blade as a Chisel Ground Tanto and the 'A' Blade as a Conventional V Ground Spearpoint. What gives?

Hey Commanderfan,

The website is incorrect. This came up recently in another thread as well.

For the record, to the best of my knowledge, all EKI products are "Chisel Ground" for the final sharpening. This includes all the "A" series knives (Spearpoint Ravens, CQC7As, ect), the Commanders and the La Griffe.

The "A" series knives and the Commanders have a "V" ground, for lack of a better term, "Profile". However they are still sharpened "Chisel grind" style.

Hope this helps.

Hey,I said the same thing when I got my CQC7 A.Heres the way it goes.Double V grind means that the blade has no flat side, the edge is still ground on one side only.

They call it a chisel grind when one side of the edge is ground ,that to me is where the confusion is.WOOD chisels are ground like that but not ALL chisels.I own a number of chisels for cement and metal work those chisels are not only ground on each side but the edge is also ground on each side.See you could call any SAK or Buck 110 chisel ground because they are ground just like a masonary and metal working chisel. Kind of like thinking that all hammers have a claw at one end, when some have picks, balls, hatchets ect.

Once you realize what the knife world means by "chisel grind" then just kind of go with it.

Thanks for the quick response. The explanations do help, however, I'm still confused. Are there any pictures that anyone knows of that show the difference of both grinds?

Hey Commanderfan

I don't have a picture showing edge detail.

Closest thing to a picture showing the difference is on of the backside of an Commander and an ES1-M (it's larger, true chisel ground cousin)

John -

Who did the work on that Commander of yours? I LOVE the way the bevels are "raw" metal, while the flat portion of the blade is black!

That actually is a real Satin (uncoated blade) Commander. Satin all over. The angle of the camera made the flats look darker.

Damn those Satins look good!
