I know next to nothing about slipjoints / Case knives. I recently recieved a Case small Gunstock. It is a nice small slipjoint with a chisel or single sided grind. Both blades are pretty dull. I tried sharpening them on my Sharpmaker without much success. How do you sharpen a knife that only has a single grind? Is there some trick to this?
Thanks in advance

I do the same thing but lightly alternate both sides until the burr is removed.

i make chisel grind knives. i can send pictures of how to do it by hand if you like. i use a belt sander and work up a burr that comes up on the flat side. i dont touch the flat side with a stone or any other abrasive. i use a paper buffing wheel to remove the burr and polish the edge. it gets them scarry sharp when i'm done.

the ground side should be sharpened as normal, then run a smooth stone over the other side at an angle of about 45degrees once or twise to take off the burr ( a butchers steel works well for this) and then strop the blade.

leaves a nice polished back and a sharpened polished bevel
