Eh im so frustrated but confused. Maybe for noting. Anyway I’ve had a Cold Steel Recon 1 Clip Point I’ve had for a very long time now. I’ve EDC it for well since 2008 I think.
So about 6-7 months ago I decided to get another one. But I bought the Tanto version. I finally got around to sharpening it today. The edge got a little ruffed up I dropped the knife and the edge hit the concrete. It got a couple super small almost barely visible chips. Drove me nutz.
I decided to use the Atoma Plates I recently purchased I just went straight to the 1200. I worked on it until I got a burr on the “flat” side. It was a very small burr but it was there. I flipped it over laid the knife flat and ever so slightly raised it I did a couple light strokes edge trailing. Burr flipped to the grind side. So I lightly ran it a couple stokes on the grind side. Burr flipped back.
This got frustrating. My understanding is you sharpen the “grind” side the strop the back side very lightly. I’ve done this before on a 1000 grit stone. So I was like screw it I pulled out the leather strop I have mounted on wood with green compound. I ran it on the grind side a hand full of times. The back on the flat side a couple times. Still felt like their was a burr on the grind side.
I finally just gave up and said screw it. I tried cutting a sheet of paper just to see and to my surprise it sliced right through. Nothing snagged and it was smooth.
I swear I still feel a burr on the grind side. Is their some kinda trickery where chisel grinds will still feel like they have a super tiny burr? I’ve never had a knife that had a burr on it slice that cleanly through paper. I also have very little experience with chisel grinds. Kinda another reason I bought this one.
Also if it makes any kind of difference the steel is S35VN.
Thanks
