I've discovered that I REALLY like chisel grinds after getting my hands on my first Emerson, and I've begun searching for a fixed blade with a chisel grind. The main problem being that I can't find any. Does anybody have a recommendation for a chisel grind knife, made from stainless steel, in anything $250 or less? I'd prefer a fixed blade, but I'll take folder recs as well. I'd be most appreciative for any info on the matter.

Check out the custom makers section. Chisel edges pop up often and look purdy nice..

I do fixed blades with chisel grinds, and accept custom orders. Let me know if I can help.

Mr. Terrio: That is a most generous offer, may I ask if you ship to NY? If you do, then you and I will have much to talk about. Thank you very kindly for the offer sir!

Check out Daniel Fairly knives. I would say he specializes in them. He is on blade forums as well . Hope this helps. I think his screen name is "Daniel Fairly Knives"

This one just sold. I have a kiridashi from Daniel Fairly which has a lot in common with the tanto -- heavy stock, chisel grind, nice Kydex. Check out his forum at http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/873-Daniel-Fairly-Knives

Take a look at the other hosted knifemaker forums too. Interesting and excellent work and a lot of it at reasonable prices.

Keep in mind that Emerson does a left-handed chisel grind, which is hard for right-handers to use for utility.

^Esav: I had noticed that, actually. I'm a righty, so I had some difficulty with it. This is the reason custom makers interest me so greatly, because they'll make it with a right hand chisel grind if I'm willing to pay up. And I am as long as it's $250 or less.

Daniel Fairly Knives, sub-forum on here in makers section as noted above...

Snody knives makes 'em chisel, and has his crisis grind (basically just a chisel grind with a cool name...)

Jeremy Horton does lots of chisel grinds..

These 3 guys all have sub-forums on here and have all different experience in making.. chisel grinds leave more stock behind the edge therefore making them stronger then V grinds. Also all 3 guys have a similar style IMO.. semi tactical looking knives made for hard use..

Cheers!

Wow, looks like it was right under my nose the whole time! I'm spoiled for choice, can't say it's a bad problem to have in my opinion. Thanks so much you guys, I'm very grateful.

I'll ship (insured, of course) basically anywhere. What happens when it gets there is between you and the local authorities. :) Email incoming.

Check out Ivan Campos, a noted Brazilian cutliero. He does outstanding, elegant work. I have his American Standard Tanto in D3 (think, D2 on steroids). I can chop through a 2 x 4 with it and still shave with that 35 degree chisel edge. Prices more than reasonable, too.

How come you like chisel grinds? What makes them different than v-grinds?
