After playing around with my new CRKT KISS I've decided something. Chisle grind can be a very good thing.
I haven't had a chisle ground knife since I lost my Junglee Sahara Jr. years ago. Haven't missed them either. Until now. Looking at the edge it doesn't appear exceedingly sharp. It shaves, but not great...just ok. But man does it cut! Pushes through nails (finger...toe...) like butter. Push cuts paper great. All this from an edge which appears duller than any of my hand honed double beveled knives. Yet it seems to cut better (well, better than some any how).
I'm thinking its gotta be edge geometry. The inclusive bevel angle is effectively HALF that of a typical grind (generallality). Thus much better seperation of the intial cut.
Yes there are some down sides, like reverse cut control (when the bevel is pointing into the cut). Or sharpening (not as simple and pretty to control the burr as a traditional grind). But who else here can appreciate the simple beauty of this cutting design?
BTW, I noticed a dimple in the back side of the blade, presumably from QC hardness test; very nice CRKT.
