My chitlange drew first blood mine's. I was touching up her edge and watching television, somehow she slipped and next thing I knew blood was everywhere. I could not find the first aid kit quickly because my son had it camping so I used one of my wife's pads from under the sink. It bled for about 20 min but I think it is ok now. It did not hurt at all at first but now it's starting to throb.

Looks like it took a chunk out. That's gonna be sore for awhile. Glad it wasn't worse.

Now you know why I keep the superglue next to the sharpening supplies;)
I've got a nice scratch on my right shin where I over swung with my M43. Stupid should hurt:p

Didn't hurt? That means you got it nice and sharp.

Reminds me of the story of the Gorkha in a knife fight. After swinging his blade his opponent laughed and said "You missed!" Whereupon the Gorkha replied, "Really? Try shaking your head."

Wow, I can see the head falling off as he tried to shake it, yikes

When the blade is sharp you don't feel it but see the blood this is true

This is how it looks the next day. Your correct stupid should hurt. I learned my lesson when handling a sharp object it will have my full attention TV goes off.

Yea the tv should definitely be off. I've read the safety thread more than once & the picture of what a Khukuri can do while dropped is very scary. You have to respect a blade no matter how small. Although khukuri's are not small. When you hear 41 oz & think that 2lbs & change isn't much. It sure is heavy for a knife. I'm not sure how many of you in this forum have ever had to use a knife in self defense or have been stabbed. Neither of them is a good thing & i've experienced both living in this concrete jungle called New York & i definitely would not want to be the cause of a serious injury to myself with any blade

yes i agree if they are causing trouble no one would want to see you get hurt

so as an act of compassion ;) i to offer to let you dispose of the you could send them to me i would bury them in my back yard so they would be safe

Thanks for the offers of disposal but I think I will just get them back by working them overtime processing wood and hopefully a boar this coming weekend.

We don't call them 2 pound 18" long razor blades for nothing. Like incoming fire a Khukuri in motion has the right-of-way. I have more scar tissue from my wrists down than most people have on their whole bodies about half caused my blades the other half caused by general dings. God help me if anyone ever threatens to cut me with a knife...I'll probably die laughing before I get serious enough to do something about it:p
jamaljahda, how were you sharpening? My preferred method is a large piece of sandpaper on a long leather strop backed with hardwood. If I'm using a stone I lock the stone in the vice. Both of these tend to help keep steel away from flesh.

Yowch, I wonder if you need a stitch or three on that one, it's not too late, and it would probably heal faster/better... Just my 2 cents as a former EMT, who recently did a similar "stupid" thing! (lesson learned indeed...)

Some of the old style khukuris that show up here from time to time have an awl amongst the accessory tools in the sheath.

Just saying ...

I hear you....

Ouch now that looks like it really hurt. For who asked I sharpen using a smiths whet stone medium and follow with a ceramic fine. They have not been in any vice. The stone is set in this plastic case that is supposed to sit on your desk but it moves somi used it with blade in one hand and stone in the other. Now after this incident I have removed the stone from the plastic mount and purchased a mini vise from harbor freight that I can mount almost anywhere and hold the stone. That is how I sharpen now. I have not tried it on my khukuris because they are already sharp but I put a wicked edge on my valientco golok potong using this method.

I hope all you guys stay safe..

After 20 plus years of construction work i have all kind's of scars on my hands (other places too) just lucky i still have all my fingers -so I didn't mean to seem indifferent. Actually i hate to see people get hurt.

It so easy to get distracted - bad part is getting reminded is usually painful.

jamaljahda - i hope you are healing up ok --- you knew i was joking about the knife disposal thing right?

Dang Duck is that recent?
