Today I received the Prototype Chitlangi Bowie from the 7-14 deals. This design was originally an idea that I had for a smaller, bowie or camp type blade to compliment a larger Chitlangi. Here is the original thread regarding this blade design, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=391757&highlight=ideas

Let me just say that Kumar has outdone himself on this one. The fit and finish is absolutely beautiful. It balances great in the hand and is slightly blade heavy as I was hoping. It has a chiruwa style handle as per my original design. It is a little over 1/4 at the spine and is a pretty beefy feeling blade. It came shaving sharp out of the box. What an awesome blade. I still have'nt had the chance to test it yet, but I hopefully will later today. I really have no complaints about this prototype model. A couple of small changes I would make would be to make the tip a little thicker and to drop it a little and the handle a little slimmer (I have small hands). Other than that, it is good to go. It seems very very sturdy. Can't wait to chop something with it! Another really cool thing that I discovered is that the blade actually fits in the sheath for my Ranger Knives RD7!! I really like the sheath that it came with, but to beat around in the woods, the nylon and velcro sheath can't be beat for utility and blade retention. Anyway's, enough talk, lets get to the pics!! I will report back on its performance later.

Very nice photos. The blade appears even more substantial than it did in the original pictures. Congratulations. A deserving recipient.

That is a really good looking knife, I agree with some small changes however first time out it really is a great piece. Great pics they really make the knife stand out.

That is the sweetest knife I've seen in a while. Just damn awesome. Those fullers are the shiznit. Damnit. Gotta put one of those on my list.

The handle looked a bit large on those and that was the only thing that kept me from jumping on them. Otherwise they look fantastic. I'll definately be getting one in the future:thumbup:

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Here is a pic, taken by my fiancee, showing the blade in hand to get a better reference for its size. The handle is nice and long to accomodate different grips for chopping, or finer work. Ignore the ugly critter holding the blade.:)

Funny, it doesn't look like your left hand is black. I always wondered. Now I think you may be an imposter. You Bastid, send us the real Lefthandblack!!!!!!!!

Ahhhhh, but the left hand is hidden is it not?:)

I must say, that knife with the chit make a very handsome pair. Nice knife. I would not want to meet someone in a dark alley carrying that beastie.

wow, that's sweeeeeet. i really like the full chiruwa tang ... and had it been wood, you know my mantra... :) zoom. best you get the first one ;)

now, we need a user report. go find some saplings and have at it. do some batoning too :)

wow....I'm liking that more and more!

I really think that HI has a winner with that one. Can't say it strongly enough. Very fine camp knife or fighter.

Oh my goodness. Can you imagine that guard and handle with about a 20-24" sabre (upswept) blade?

This knife is picking up steam fast. It's funny how some models, analysed and blue printed, fail or only achieve modest success, while other blades fly off the pages of the screen from conception to figure in a matter of weeks, and are met with happiness. This Chitlangi Bowie may make HI history. I feel something great has begun.

I sure hope that HI makes more of these so that everyone that wants one gets a chance. I believe this knife is going to be a great user. I have done a little preliminary chopping in my garage today and I was impressed to say the least. It bites very deep for a 9" blade and penetrates very well on a stab. I was testing it on a seasoned hickory log that I like to use for just this purpose. It seems to be hardened all the way to the very tip and holds a great edge. The tip held up to being stabbed about 3'4" deep and pried sideways, even for being a little thin. Impressive. After about 5 minutes of continuous chopping, it would still shave hair. Anyone that has chopped into hickory before knows that this is a pretty good measure of edgeholding. I also chopped up the box that it came in, I could'nt resist:)

I hope to have a more in depth report on its toughness in the near future. I love this blade!!
