Chitlangi or Sirupati?

I've had my eye on the Chitlangi, how does it compare to other blades of its size & weight? I think my 18" Ganga Ram should take care of my heavy chopper needs, so I think my next khukuri should be a lighter knife. I like the look of the Chitlangi more than the Sirupati, the fullers really give it style.
I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on the comparison/recommendation between the two.

Thanks,
Isaac

Siru is Gurkha's staple apart from the issued BAS. It's a fighting khuk that excels in many ways.

Chitlange/Chitlangi was made for tourist and then became a sensation. It is a very beautiful blade with a special kaudi design.
It's basically a Siru with dui chirra.

General
- The name Chitlangi comes from the village in the western part of Makwanpur district of Nepal - Chitlang, hence the name. Chitlangis have characteristic bell at the end of the handle, and the cho is closed, "eye of the dove" (pariwa ki aka) vs. more conventional, open cho on majority of the kukris - click here to see the close-up picture of the cho. Can't say that affects cutting or chopping ability of the kukri, but does give a different look :)
Generally Chitlangi is similar to Sirupati, Kobra, Chainpuri. Compared to Sirupati Chitlangi is lighter, that is - generally, and made by the same kami :) Otherwise your results may vary. Anyway, being lighter Chitlangi is easier to handle, faster, however somewhat lesser chopper. For an average user the loss of chopping ability won't be noticeable, the user's technique will play a lot more important role I guess. At least that's the case for me.-Zknives.com

I had the pleasure to handle Mohd's Siru-Chitlangi hybrid not long ago; it feels like feather yet packs a lot of slicing. All hail Bura!
Though this model doesn't pop up often, you want to take a look at the Gelbu Special.

Thanks Jay!
That helps me understand the differences, and also why there is much more talk about sirupati on the forum.

Here's a 21 inch chit I picked up off of deal of the day. This one is unusually heavy at 39oz.

The chit is like a gentleman's siru. It's not as much of a chopper, but it oozes style and grace.
A siru is what you pack to clear out the brambles along the trail.
A chit is what you open carry to a fancy social gala to chip your own ice off the ice sculpture for your beverage...trust me, no one is going to say a thing to you about it;)

I don't have one, but I would like to:)

So, the chitlangi is an inferior chopper to the sirupati? How different is it in chopping ability? Will it be enough for the light duty that doesn't warrant carrying an 18" GRS?

Or am I going to have to end up with both..... I'm starting to see how this HIKV is spread and rapidly infectious... Its most likely too late for me already... I'm doomed... I can already see myself being forced to live in a van down by the river because my wife kicked me out of the house after I bought the entire repertoire of HI possibilities. On the positive note, I'll have plenty of firewood and a nice clearing thanks to my many khukuri...

I don't think Steely meant that the Chit wasnt as good a chopper as the Siru but a bit more unique, if you read the history and look closely. You're just gonna have to hold both. I had two 8" Baby Grand Chits that I batoned thru Oak logs for 6 days straight for our sole cooking and warming fires while camping with my Daughters a few years ago. After the camping trip, I gave them to my daughters. I'll get a pic of one in a day or so, since one daughter is home from college. You can see my 15" Chit Bowie in the recent thread on carrying Khukuris. It's like a half Gladius.

Whoa! How did I miss that?!
A Chit Bowie mini gladius! It's the first Bowie knife that I actually like the looks of.
Did you order special?

Yes I did. Well, it was a long time ago at a time when they were sorta coming in shipments and I just asked Aunt Yangdu if I could request a 15" one. She said yes and after about a month she informed me that one had arrived. Muahahahaha!

You are completely within your rights to laugh like that.
That knife is WAY badass!! For the first time ever, I want a Bowie knife... Hmm... I think I'll just say that I'm lusting after a Mini Chitlangi Gladius.

What is the finish on the blade? It adds to the beauty of the knife, and the uniqueness.

The knife reminded me of a Tiger Shark, so I gave it the Mustard Tiger Stripe Patina.

HI has many different Bowie's. I have at least 4 different ones. Good luck on the order that you get yours.

Yeah, I found that thread last night... Every time I think I narrow down my list to one or two models, I find another one that demands attention.
It's amazing how many variations of a knife one can lust after. They are all so attractive, and each has something that makes me want one.
