I've been trying to see what the differences are between these two...aside from coming from different areas, and what seems like a slightly heavier blade with the Chit, what are the differences?

There are some subtle styling differences, and I believe that there are slight weight distribution and weight differences. This is a question that interests me too... ;)

Dan :)

Chainpuri is made w/o fullers, narrower blade, and makes a Sirupati look like a 4-door Chevy sedan next to a Mazda Miata.

Last I looked a picture of my 20" Chainpuri was still on the FAQ's. Comes in wood only scabbard.

Also have two villagers. One is 17" and 14 ozs. Deadly, and does a better job of being a Kobra than the ones Kumar makes.

Forget what other weighs, but also 17" and seems like 20 ozs., at a guess. Stretch a BAS to 17" retaining the blade width and weight. This one is my beater and gets all the dirty work around, and the neglect too.

Both these villagers were mismarked with the Hee Eee symbols at the bend. You can tell they aren't up to HI standards in a single glance, but very useful anyway.

Think of the heavier 17" as the battered Stevens single shot 16 ga. that sits in the box in the bed of the pickup, and ends up shooting more rabbits than your 22, more grouse than your 20 ga. side by side, more ducks than your 12 ga., and more geese than your 10. Not to mention taking more deer with slugs than your 30-30 lever gun.

Now ask me how I like it. LOL

Hmm...I've gone back and picked a few images. I didn't see any wooden scabbard references Rusty...in fact the ones I found were all leather. I'm still trying to figure this out. Below are a few shots of either chits or chains...make it a test to identify which is which?

Number 2 - Chit

I'll publish the answers when the thread dies down...there are no tricks, just try to identify which is a chain and which is a chit!

Keep it fun and don't cheat! :p

Maybe this way *I* can learn the differences!

There are three features that distinguish the two of them for me. The Chain does not have a full brass or steel buttplate like the Chit it only has the brass keeper. The Chain has a much more noticeable or sharper angle at the shoulder of the blade. Last, I agree with Rusty, the Chain does not have any fullers whereas the Chit has two. To me the most noticeable and easiest difference to ascertain is the first one.

crooked knife...you da MAN!

I should have seen the butt cap difference...gotta stop surfing so late at night I guess!

Okay boys, GAME OVER

Thanks crooked knife!

Over, that is, until the kamis use their tea break to come up with another way to drive us all nuts.

You really cleared it up for me to. While going over the photos, I also noted that the Chitlangi has crosshatching on both the bolster and handle, while the Chainpuri does not. I like them both. :)

I acquired a Bura Chitlangi back in March from Bill The Cat. An absolutely beautiful khukuri.

Gave it to my son who is in the Army at Fort Bragg. His eyes told volumes when he opened the gift. And the smile on his face was priceless.
