I want to take apart my chive to clean and oil it. Action is a little gritty. Is there a spring involved in the speed safe mechanism? Don't want to take it apart if I can't get it back together, and springs are usually a problem for me.Thanks.

welcome to the forums first off. you'll find us friendly if a bit insane. secondly, the speedsafe is actually a torsion bar (a metal dowel bent in two places and placed under tension when the knife is closed. it can be tricky putting it back in the first time (cue joke) but once you get the hang of it you will find it easy and worthwhile. my first was a zdp mini cyclone and it was a bit complicated with the AO on off switch, now i clean it regularly. and it allowed me to build a ZT0200 out of spare parts :)

not to state the obvious but make sure your blade is open when you take the handle apart or the torsion bar will go flying. good luck. and if you have a camera take pics, they will be appreciated.

I can post pics of me going into the first stages of a stroke as parts go flying around and my lab eating them as fast as they hit the floor, if it will help! :D

Took it apart ,cleaned , oiled with nano oil , put it back together. No problems! Action feels great now. Sorry no pics ,but I can't post attachments yet. Thanks!
