Hi Spyderco crew.
I dont normally make threads asking for help choosing a knife, I usually impulse purchase. But I am spending a lot of my disposable income on continuing my firearms training and associated ammo costs. Anyway, I am trying to decide between a PM2 and a Millie.

The price difference between the two is not important, I just want to buy one and remain confident that I made the right decision. My first Spyderco was a Japan made endura around 2010 or so, but the back lock was not for me, so I moved it. Early 2015 I decided to see what the PM2 buzz was all about so I picked up a black and digicam PM2 from blade hq. I liked the knife a lot but had a brother deploying so I had it engraved for him and shipped it off as a gift.

I EDC a 7+ year old SMF in a belt sheath, and while it does everything that I need it to, I find that I am hampered by the blade thickness more often than having a need for it. I have a wicked edge with bells and whistles, so its not the edge, its the thickness of the stock. This brings me to wanting something more suitable for the more fequent slicing that I actually do. This will get front right pocket carried mostly, but I also want something Slim and tip down compatible to carry in a mag pouch on my plate carrier.

So, I am specifically deciding between the C81GPBN2 brown PM2 in S35VN and the C36TIP Ti Millie in S30V.
I loved my PM2, lock is nice, im fine with brown G-10 and would love to try S35VN. On the other hand, never tried a Millie, I love framelocks, full Ti handles should be great, and am fine with S30V.

So basically, is the sprint steel worth giving up the Ti handles and framelock?

The most important part of a knife is the blade, but S30V is adequate for me if that is the best option. Either length will be suitable for me, but maybe a slight preference to the longer Millie. The 4-way clip on the PM2 is nice to have options, but probably wasted on me as I intend to carry right handed, no preference on tip up/down for this knife.

I am definitely open to any suggestions and opinions. I try to stay away from black G-10 in virtually every case where any other color exists and while I am a camo loving veteran army digital is not my top choice. No preference on black vs. satin blades. I can appreciate added rust resistance but I also clean and maintain my tools. I dont want a back lock, love the compression lock and love framelocks as well. Right hand carry and I will be buying from an authorized dealer.

Thanks for your time and sorry for wall of text, just wanted to give as much info as possible. Take care guys.

The biggest differences to consider are the length and the weight. If you are good with these then you probably should go with the Military.

If your going to actually "USE" it.

Get the regular versions.

Sprints are for collectors.

Millie is only tip down.
PM2 is anything. Up down left or right.

As for plate carry. Fixed blade.

For an EDC knife I would take the Para-Military 2 over the Military for a better size for pocket carry, but, like uxo2 says for a blade on your plate carrier I would take a fixed blade.

The common answer will be both, if not now eventually. I would also suggest getting that SMF reground. If you like the knife otherwise, fix what you don't like. I had the same problem with my Southard. Big Chris fixed it.

.

Also, sprints/exclusive are not just for collectors. CRUWEAR Military is one awesome knife. And you can make it tip up. Don't limit yourself, if it's not exactly what you want, make it.

Im definitely cool with the extra length, and an Oz. Or so difference in weight is not a big deal to me.
Thanks for the tip.

Hi,
Yes I will actually "USE" it.
The additional price for the sprint run in S35 is not an issue or I have no fear of using a limited edition, or did you mean something else? I assume you do not mean pass up sprints for collectors.
Tip up/down either is fine for this application.
Concealable plate carrier, I like to keep a knife on me at all times even during PT. Its not intended for comat or as a destruction tool. Im all set on fixed blades.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Ain't that the truth!
I certainly hope not. Beautiful CRUWEAR!
Thanks for the advice and pics.

I'd say you really can't go wrong with either as they are essentially the same knife with minor differences. Between sprints and the aftermarket, you can make a PM2 pretty much anything you want. Not quite as much with the Millie but still lots of options. If a particular steel is more suitable for your intended use, start there. If blade steel isn't the main concern, it probably just comes down to if you desire the extra length or prefer one locking mechanism over another. Lately, for me, it's been the Cruwear Millie earning more pocket time over my standard blacked out PM2... I prefer the extra size/reach and, surprisingly for me, the simple liner lock of the Millie.

After reading a few of your comments seems the Military is the right choice here. And of all the Military's available my suggestion is to get the normal G10 S30V version. It's a lightweight slicing God and the ergos are incredible providing multiple positions to grip for different uses. From a full choke up using the choil to gripping at the very end of the larger grip it just works and works well. It's a Spyderco classic that any Spyderco enthusiast needs in their collection.

Military.

I have both, standard satin S30v and black G10.

I hardly carry the PM2 anymore, it has been kicked out of my pocket by another 3 1/2" blade knife ( not a Spyderco).

Nothing can take the place of my Military. ( carried as a second/work knife)

i believe the brown is just an exclusive, so buy it and beat it up! btw i just got mine like 2 weeks ago and love it.

the PM2 is a wonderful knife, but if you are good with the size and looking for a really solid work knife, it's Millie all the way. love the feel and functionality of my Cru-wear millie.

I went with the Military Ti frame lock. Thanks guys for all of the info and recommendations. Looking forward to having this one in hand.

That's a great choice! I don't always carry mine because it's a large, heavy and intimidating folder, but it carries well, feels awesome in hand and is a wicked slicer.

Got my new Ti millie in on Saturday and it accompanied me to the range on Sunday. I think we are going to be friends! Thanks for all of the suggestions guys, I love the knife!
