Next paycheck, it's either a 16.5 WWII or a 15" AK. I'm working for an outfitter in the deep woods of MT and will be using it for trail clearing, and splitting my kindling for my stove. Which one is best for these tasks? I'm firm on these two models, just need help choosing between the two.

l have no experience with the WWII but l have a 20" AK and it is one heckuva clearing tool, and it can split kindling very well.

I have and use both. I think either would do the job for you. The AK is a bit more stout but I do like the feel of a WW2. I have my 16.5 " in my "go" back pack. It has allot of power for a lighter khuk.

I have the AK 15 and CAK 16.5,, between the two I think I'd go with the CAK 16.5, I don't know how the WWII compares to it but I'd prefer extra heft for that environment.

got both and would grab the ww2 if could only take one.either would be right but ww2 would be better for me,

I like my 17 inch CAK if I need to walk.32 oz
Love my 20 inch but too big to carry. 42oz.
I chopped a 4 by 4 pressure treated in under 4 minutes yesterday with the 20 incher.

3 inches and 10 ozs don't sound like much but there is a HUGE difference.

Go longer and thinner - thinner blades are better for brushy stuff (up to 2 inches or so). By that, I mean find one of your chosen models with a thinner blade - the actual spine width can vary significantly, even within a particular model. Also, I'd go with the 16.5" model if you have larger hands. I'd lean towards the WWII, but try and snag a deal of the day. Performance will be comparable either way, and you can spend the money you save on a sharpening accessory.

As a 15" AK user, all I can say is you'll probably need to do some batonning to split the heartier pieces of kindling. Now, with my 19" Samsher on the other hand...

WWII 16.5. I put a bit of a thinner convex on the one I have to give it more efficiency on the thin stuff (brush, reeds, tall grasses, hanging vines, ect), and it is without question my "go to" pack/hiking kuk. It chops bigger than it is and splits kindling as well as any hatchet I have ever owned.
