I've decided to make 2010 the year of antelope hunting. Hopefully that also means the year of antelope dressing and skinning. So, like the good bladeforum member that I am, I've been acquiring sharp alternatives to last season's winner (Dozier).

The details:

1. Jukka Hankala, Ikari-knife with leather handle and RWL-34 steel,
2. Chris Reeve Nyala, CPM S35VN steel, burlap micarta handle,
3. Seamount Drop Point Hunter, CPM S110V @ RC 64, desert ironwood, silicon brass finger guard, and
4. Dozier KS-3 Professional Guides Knife with Master Skinner blade tip, thumb grooves.

Obviously I'll take all four to the hunting fields. But which will end up getting used the most? My curiosity is intense, to say the least. :D

nyala is shorter, could give you more tip control over the dozier.

Yes, but I usually have a Dozier New Hunter or Delta Traveller in my pack for detail work. And a Havalon Piranta scalpel for caping and REALLY close work.

For skinning I would use either the dozier or the Jukka Hankala. However for everday carry/utility I would pick the Nyala or Phil Wilson. Very nice knives by the way!

For skinning the Jukka Hankala nice handle ergos and a nice skinnong blade. I like the Dozier for everything else.

If you don't need the others you could always senf them to me. :D

The new hunter would do everything...I would use that or the delta traveler over anything pictured.

Antelope are smaller than a deer..now if your going to have multiple people working on the animal, and your in a hurry cause they stink so bad:)

You have very good tastes in hunting knives.

I personally would use the Wilson as first choice although any one would do just fine I'm sure. My least favorite of the group would be the Reeve knife.

Just curious if you like the taste of antelope meat because to me it tastes like crap. I ended up giving away all of the meat on the few I've shot due to the extremely gamey flavor.

I do like it, quite a bit, but it is very dependent on what the antelope is feeding on and how it is killed. If the antelope is run, AT ALL, before it is killed, I hate the taste. On the other hand, if the antelope has good forage and is killed standing (and without a long run after being shot), I find it excellent.

I would trade all three of the others for the Wilson and never use anything else.

I agree about antelope taste. I had meat from one killed instantaneously with a high shoulder shot from a 25-06 at only 110 yards, so no adrenaline or hot blooding or anything like from a wounded animal. Still tasted like c#@p.

The Wilson will keep cutting longer than the rest, but the Dozier is no slouch either. Looks like you've got a great selection to choose from, enjoy!
