CHOIL on 6 vs. 5

I started out with an RAT 6 and got an ESEE 5 for Christmas last month. There are many differences in the knives, but one thing that really stands out for me is the choil.

I was unaware that I put my index finger in the choil a lot and out of habit, I cut a finger on the 5 thinking that I'd have room there. Out of curiosity, why doesn't the 5 have a choil? I'm sure there is wisdom in the 5 design, just trying to be educated.

I like the feature so that I can choke up on the blade for smaller work but still have a bigger blade when I need it.

When the SERE instructors designed it they wanted it without choil. One reason is if you stab it through the skin of a helicopter a choil is going to get hung up.

Besides that it has better aerodynamics without the choil when you throw your 5 towards the heli to take him down... :D

Easily one of the best descriptions for a knife feature I have EVER heard!
:D:thumbup:

Norsman, you probably don't need that finger anyway!
I am also tempted to put my finger there, but for safety, I just throw it at what I'm cutting, which is usually a helicopter.
