Choil vs. no choil

What a painful decision that was. I'm sure I could have gotten a few numbers lower on my le if I didn't have to sit and ponder on that one.

Ended up going with no choil. No looking back now.

From a users stand-point, I would go choiless on these. Although, I like the way choils look and they make sharpening a bit easier. It's a win win...

I went choil for this one. I like no choil for under five inches from a user standpoint. I WAS a hard choice (I may have to order another without one:eek:)

:D

:D

This was my thinking too. I like to choke up for better control.

Even on the shorter Tankbuster I prefer the choil. So no question for me. Choil it is.

ive owned both protos,w and w/o choil.i liked the choiled version much better.but that is personal preference.you will probably see alot of varying opinions...

I love being able to choke up all the way on these knives. For a big chopper I think it wouldnt matter. This is a great all around knife so I think the 3/4 of an inch of blade is worth it.

I would have chose no choil on every single blade I've ever had from busse if I had the option, including the basic 9, 11, the ffbm, nmfbm, ak47, all of them.

I really think the no choil option might be pulling me harder.

I don't mind a choil on bigger knives, but really, can't think of it making too much of a difference on bigger knives with or without.

I do hate the elf choil on the smaller knives, and my liking the Cabs so far may have colored my preferences.

The Proto choil seemed smaller on the BJ compared to the SJ which was perfect. Too small for my finger so no choil for me.

Exactly!

You know what they say about pics so I'll let these pictures explain themselves while holding a large choil BOSS Jack Proto choked up. I wear a XL or XXL mens glove. My Fiancee who wears a medium women's glove does not have this problem.

And just in case the pics don't show on your end: The pics show how the flesh of a large finger overflows the "large choil" and is therefore going to get cut sooner or later in use. The point of them is that the "large choil" is not large enough for large hands and therefore virtually useless to them. So basically small hands have a choice, but large hands really don't. :(

Tim - what's up with you fat fingered Arizonians? :D JK -

I agree with you on the choil, since I also wear XX gloves I only feel comfortable with the trigger joint on the choil of the BJ Proto - I like the looks of the choil BJ's, but really can't remember the choiless versions from Blade, and haven't seen any pics of the LE's yet either. However, I am playing it safe and ordering both :cool: When they get here, I can decide :D

Dunno, but we used to raise lots of beef for meat/dairy & grow corn along with cotton and citrus there in days of our youth... :p

Good plan! ;)
