This weekend was quite productive for my knife addiction. I tried my first 2 clich's patinas, cut and ground 1084 blanks, destroyed an SMKW promo knife, and fit the war sword more to my liking; I'm posting this here as I know a lot of becker fans also have war swords, and also included companion shots with the 9 to keep it BK&T ;)

I knew the coat had to go, but then I had the grinders close by...one thing led to another, and before I knew it I had something else in my hands. Before stripping I made a coil and kinda straightened the back half of the bottom of the blade, giving it a ranger night stalker-ish look (cell phone lens was smudged and I noticed later, sorry):

then parts of it were taped and for the next 3 days I swabbed and brushed off pcb etchant on the "ka bar" and zk logo marks:

stripped the coat, sanded to 400:

OOOOOoH I forgot to mention... the infamous handle horn was removed too! :p

but it was looking too pretty to be a real zombie killer... 3 heapings of mango pulp on each side, one hour each session:

hope you enjoy! I had a blast doing it, and am still putting an edge back on it, it's tougher than I thought!

Not only did that come out great but look like it was a lot of fun doing it. Good job man!

mangoed? splain the please sir?

might wanna patina one or two of my blades iffin i can figure out how

That's pretty sweet...and not just cuz of the mango juice! ;)

I never cared for the ZK 'sword...but I like the looks of yours 500% better now! Although, since it's a ''fighter'' I might have left the sub-hilt. But I haven't handled it so I can't make that call.

the handle is the same as the ka-bar potbelly and baconmaker; although I haven't handled them, you can see it's the same. It's kinda awkward to chop or get a good grip, at least for me. As for the mango, it was a combination on crushed mango and OJ. THe process is quite simple: strip your carbon blade, sand it but don't need to polish, just to smooth it out and get rid of the primer. Clean with alcohol and heap the chunks on top of the blade, leave undisturbed for one hour. I did it 3 times per side, but you might be satisfied with just one pass. The riper the mango (not rotten) and juicier, the better and darker the stain is.

And yeah, it was fun!!! so much fun that I stripped another blade, a schrade schf9 and clich'd it. New thread coming up.

Thought the "handle horn" was only on the Tanto...My war sword is missing it....looks good though man..

not really a horn, I meant the hump/subhilt in the middle of the handle, like the one on the potbelly.

That's wild, man. It looked nice sanded down to 400, and then BAM that patina just made it look that much better. It's going to be real fun when those Machax finally get here. Real fun.

Very cool, that patina has a real nice look to it:D
Nice job,

Nice, I've thought of taking my sword to the grinder, buy the more I play with handle configurations and grips, the more I like it. Mango does some of the neatest looking patinas, you can get an almost Damascus effect by being careful with the placement and doing a few applications.

Id also be interested in seeing it with the black handles as well. Mango patina looks freaken sweet, might have to try that on something

cool, I had no clue where did I put the black slabs but found them today. Guess I'll be grinding tomorrow. Glad you like it, folks.

That looks fantastic. I'm going to order one of those zombie killers.. but which one

Really nice!

How do you like that SK5? I don't know much about it myself.

I'm checking out some choppers now and the zombie line seems like a sweet bargain. Hows this guy and the pestilence chopper compare to a BK9? I haven't found too many rundowns on the pestilence.

These things look really nice to me when they are de-zombified!

well, sk5 turned out to be tougher than I thought, spent quite some time bringing that edge back after I dulled it with a grinder's wire brush. Dunno about the pestilence, but this one chops pretty good; not as good as the 9, I guess due to it being an ffg and lighter or because the 9 is just a plain badass mofo.
