I know that the tannins in leather can promote rust, so a stripped SR-101 blade is pretty likely to rust in a leather sheath. Would it be possible to soak or coat the inner surfaces of a sheath with Choji oil. That way the blade would be less likely to rust if left in the
sheath for a while. Is there a better oil out there that you guys would recommend?

Couple squirts of WD40 in the sheath really helps... I haven't had any problems. Ren Wax helps also.... I have used both plus a blueing process on O1 with high success!

Thank you everyone. I am curious to find out if using an oil like the ones we have mentioned would eventually impregnate the leather enough to allow for less-frequent application in the field.

Tuff Cloth has been my anti-rust barrier. No problems, so far. I hear thr Marine Tuff Cloth works with full immersion in brine but makes the blade look greasy/waxy/whatever.

I seal all my leather sheathes inside and out with SnowSeal. I take them apart, melt in two or three coats with a heat gun, and re-stitch the sheaths with waxed nylon thread. Never had a rust problem storing any of my high carbon blades in these sheathes.
