Choji Oil leaving horrible streaks on katana?

So I bought some Choji Oil in a big bottle off of ebay for katanas and bonsai pruning, and it's definitely thicker or more viscous that the stuff that came with my sword cleaning kit. I took my blade out of its saya a day later and the blade was all splotchy it looked like the oil dripped down the blade and evaporated off in some spots? Really bizarre but I put some of my old choji oil on afterwards to compare and it was fine again up to a week later. Any idea what's going on? Bad choji oil if there is such a thing?

Thanks for the responses!

I have never had that happen with any Choji oil I have ever used. Perhaps you can contact the seller for information. I went to using food grade mineral oil from the drugstore on my katanas. It does not smell as good but it works just as well. And as an added bonus, it is food grade, in case I use my katanas for food prep.:D

The weirdest thing is that I've used it on my knives and tomahawk and it doesn't streak on them!! Am I applying it too thick or thin?

It may (?) be a cheap choji oil. There are different grades. IMHO, light mineral oil
works just as well; maybe better. If it's running down the blade, then you are
using way too much; just a thin, thin coating is all that is needed. If you can
see the oil, then it's likely too much.

I'll be trying a thinner coating next time thanks! If that doesn't work I'll definitely just pick up some light mineral oil.

Thanks

What do you mean by streaks? Is there something that you would consider to be damage to the blade polish? I'd be interested to see a picture of exactly what you mean.

I have this 'sword oil' I got for carbon knives, but it was made for katanas.

It smells minty, and is edible.
