I had my Chokwe for a bit before I really liked it and started using it on

a regular basis. Its grown to be one of my fave Spydies....I have to have a

handle At Least 4 3/4 and a blade cutting edge at least 3 1/4 plus and

frame lock is a Big plus. I dont use choils..I dont count the choil as part of

the handle. Its smoooth action is another big plus!

Anyone else out there in Spydie land who really likes their Chokwe a lot and

uses it?

I don't carry it as much as I do some others mostly out of old habits. I do like it very much. The lock, the ergonomics, the geometry all combine to make a first class cutting/slicing knife.

It looks less comfortable than it is. Build quality on mine was functionally perfect. Visually it was extremely close and you have to try to find imperfections.

All in all I really like it and keep promising to put my other Spyders down and give it the time it deserves which to me is at least two to three months of use as primary carry.

I'm confident it'll do fine.

I like mine. I have it in one of my Spyderpacs and haven't carried it yet.
Nice blade shape and comfortable handle (even though it may not look like it)
Also...almost forgot to mention very slim in the pocket.

I really like the Chokwe too. It’s probably my favorite Spyderco actually.

I’ve carried and used mine a bit, but I don’t EDC it just because the blade length is of questionable legality. It carries well though and is a great slicer.

I EDC my Chokwe and LOVE it!
It is one of the best slicers I have ever used!
Framelock that helps add to ZERO blade-play!
Sooooooooo smoooooooth!!!!
Thin!
Very lightweight for a pretty big folder!
I now love its Ergonomics!
3.75" blade!
Premium s30v steel!

Cons:

The blade is a little thin, but if it was any thicker, it wouldn't have the slicing abilities it does. So, not much of a ‘con’.
It has been 'discontinued.' :( That’s a pretty big ‘con.’

Really? Didn't realize that?! It is listed in the 2010 catalog...

what did I miss?

I own two of them, one as part of my EDC rotoation (actually, it just found its way into my pocket again), and one as a mint backup unused in box. That's how good it is :)

It has a lot to recommend it. I'm sorry to hear it has been discontinued, but it does have a bit of an unusual profile that probably scared the masses away.

Yep, got the e-mail this morning from that center...Been distracted by thoughts of Chokwe all day. Keen to hear your thoughts on its performance.

This knife embodies a lot of what people on this forum like about a knife.

It's lightweight with a premium steel blade that has a flat grind making it a great slicer. The splinter picker pointed tip should be a dream come true with people on this forum. This thing excels in both slicing and penetration one thing it does not suffice for is prying of any kind. With the ongoing mantra here of how a knife is not a pry bar this shouldn't be an issue.

The overall profile of the knife is slim making for easy carry.

It is a smooth easy one hand opening and closing titanium frame locked (don't oil the lock bar or it will stick) knife. The other side is G10 over a skeleton stainless liner. Fit and finish is excellent. This is proof that Taiwan is capable of making TOP QUALITY knives among other things.

Don't let the looks of the ancient shape and profile of this knife fool you. It is so ergonomic and feels so comfortable in the hand in different positions it's sick. It's looks does not reveal it's excellent ergonomics.

This proves that the ancient africans that invented this design were way ahead anyone else here when it comes to ergonomics and function.

This should be the knife a lot of people here are crying for.

If it is indeed discontinued get one while you still can I cannot see how this one would not become a sought after collector's item eventually.

I can't say with certainty who I spoke with at Spyderco (Charlynn IIRC), but I was told that this model has been discontinued. It’s really too bad as this knife Kicks A$$. I believe that this model, like the Lil’ Temp, will be pretty valuable and highly sought after in the future; for reasons mentioned by ‘greater’.

I like mine as a medium duty knife - I've put all liner and frame locks into the meduium duty category at best (some are light duty)..

Compared to just about any slippy, the Chokwe wins.

Mine showed up today. i love the unique shape of the handle and blade. It should be an excellent slicer and looks like a pretty tough knife. It's also compact enough that i may EDC it. I thought it was much larger based on the pics but it's a pretty decent size.

Just got around to taking some pics of it.
