Hi
I got a chokwe for 8 days now. I was so happy with it. So beautif ,so nice to carry. No Blade play at all .It was my fav knife of all time until:

I was trying to make fuzz sticks. I was carving away and put some pressure on the knife forcing it into the wood. Nothing unusual. However the knife could not be unlocked. It was sooo hard to unlock I thought of using pliars.

I did not use pliers and was able to unlock it with much force but the knife is ssssssssoooooooooooo gritty now. It can be hardly unlocked and makes a klicky sound. The lock bar seems to engage much deeper than before.

So disappointed I wonder if it is a problem with the heat treating of the titanium or something like that.

Thanks

Interesting.

Have you tried the old pencil lead on the lock interface trick?

Sounds like you somehow removed the oxidation on the end of the lock-bar.

Have you dissassembled the knife yet? I'll bet you'd see something wrong with the end of the liner lock or blade. Maybe the liner lock was even bent.

Worst case scenario, if you don't see anything,I'm sure the company will honor its warranty.

No I did not take the knife apart. Using a flash light, I cant see anything worng with the end of the lock bar or the blade.

When I got the knife it was perfect. It only developed this later.
I am not interested in sending it back to spyderco.

Ok, since you're not interested in allowing Spyderco to evaluate the knife how do you propose they resolve this for you? Or do you have some other agenda?

Why would you not want to send it backto Spyderco? If there was something faulty with the knife they will fix it or replace the knife with a new one. Yes, it will be a couple weeks before getting it back, but do you want your expensive knife to work or not? If it gets sent back not fixed then you should go about taking it apart to try to fix it, but it does void your warranty if you disassemble it.

I live in Saudi Arabia. I buy my knives from the states and have them shipped via fedex. Normal mail will not allow knives in.

I dont think Spyderco or any other company will ship a knife fedex for my sake to Saudi Arabia.

As for the point of this thread:

1- Someone might have a solotion.
2- Just feed back in case there is a common problem with this model.

It's your right not to send it back to Spyderco but unless you do it, this issue won't be resolved. We can all speak our minds about what may have happened, I just don't see what good will it be...

In order to fix something, you usually have to actually do something to it. Taking it apart and inspecting it is the only way you're going to solve the problem, if you don't want use the warranty.

You only need a $10 tool to disassemble most knives. Do you have a Torx bit screwdriver?

Spyderco may be having trouble with the stop pins on the RIL knives.I saw a thread something like this only with a leafstorm.

I think you might have bent the pivot somehow. This would cause it to engage the lock strangely because the distance between the piece on the tang that hits the lock and the lockbar would have changed. It also might explain the grittiness.

I would take the knife apart to see if you can figure out what's wrong with it.
