My Chokwe locks up with 1/3 of the lock bar .I had someone from spyderco

check at the SFO and told me those at the SFO had the same lockup.

I feel its safe but I wish it had at least 50%. What percentage of lockup

are the rest of you chokwe owners getting with yours ?

Will tell you as soon as it arrives. But meanwhile, I want to say that 1/3 is most likely already enough for a safe lock up, and I think it will wear in a little during the first weeks of use and end up closer to the desired 50% after some time.

My Chokwe is about the same with approx. 1/3 lockup when opened, but I like it that way - it's bank vault solid. Like Murdoc mentioned the lockbar should break in after a few sessions of opening and closing the blade.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the one I have here uses about 2/3 of the engagement surface on the end of the locking bar to engage the rear flat on the blade.

Early lockup is good with framelocks - it adds years of life to your knife.

Running a bit over 50% on the one I carried for a time.

I would prefer more and base wear on how far the lock engages the blade, not on how much of the bar engages the blade.

Give it time to break in - less engagement is proportional to a higher probability of lock failure in my experience.

Chris Reeve suggests that anything between 25% and 75% is just fine for framelock.

Can't find it at the moment but there's a good thread on lockup in STR's knifemaker sub-forum regarding linerlocks though I expect most of it applies to linerlocks as well. Basically it's the angle at which the tang and liner surfaces are ground, the amount of contact (vertical angle) and of course the discussed amount of engagement.
