Chokwe or Shabaria

I only have one Spyderco (a Navigator 2) and one Byrd (a Crow). I've been very happy with both of these so far and I am really liking the hole instead of a thumb stud for opening. Well, I'm thinking of a larger knife for use on the weekend around the house and have come down to pretty much these two; I also like the para-military though. No one in my area carries these, so I have to rely on your thoughts. Everyday normal tasks in the garden, kitchen and any normal task around the house. This would not be abused, or used hard, I have straight knives for that. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

The Para 2 is the best choice for an all around knife. Between the Chokwe and Shabaria, the Chokwe is much more practical and useable.

Totally agree that the para2 is the more hard use knife out of the three but the quality of the chokwe is amazing. Everything about the chokwe screems quality from the Ti to the G10 to the smoothness of the blade. F&F is awesome. I guarantee that if you like the look of the bladeshape you will love the knife. The para2 is awesome too but I just love Ti framelock knifes.

out of those two I would say go with the chokwe, Id agree with post a few above about it being much more practical then the shabaria

Ive got both...love the Chokwe and can't figure out why it gets so much negative press. Its one of the best slicers I have ever encountered! And the framelock is very solid. The Shabaria is very cool, but not as big as it seems, the blade shape is a mofo to sharpen and the handle is very small in the middle. And I'm not a fan of tip down carry (how the Shab comes), But I carry mine at a construction site and tip down puts the pivot mechanism out of my pocket and it gets filled with dust and crud before breaktime. Exactly my thoughts on the Chokwe as well. IMHO, it's one of the most underrated models in Spyderco's lineup.

I don't own a Shabaria, but given my positive experience with the Chokwe and echoing what others have said, I'd pick the Chokwe without hesitation due to its vastly more practical blade shape for pretty much everything except self-defense (the intended purpose of the Shabaria's unusual blade shape). The Para 2 is also an excellent knife and probably more versatile, but for kitchen duty and the other light tasks you're describing, the long, thin blade of the Chokwe would be a superb choice.

Thanks for all of your replies. Seems like the Chokwe is the clear winner. I'll pick one up shortly and let you know what I think.
