choose one

I'd go with the Al Mar. It's a much better slicer and dicer. If you want a Buck/Strider, get the bigger one. It's more bomb proof, and more of what Strider lovers love; Big and Honkin.

Get the Al Mar Nomad...Excellent fit & finish...Excellent (VG-10) steel...And it isn't as bulky as the Buck/Strider.

I've had a couple of Buck mini Striders, and I still have a numbered Nomad. Fit and finish on the Nomad is top notch, I think it blows away my emersons, opening is silky smooth and lockup is tight. The Nomad, also, for my taste, has one of the sharpest out of the box edges I've seen in a while. The Mini-Striders were nice, but now I have real Stiders so comparing the two is moot. I had 1st run BG-42's, and they were not all that sharp. One of my Mini's also scraped the liner when opening and closing leaving a small mark on the blade. Also, I never carried the Bucks, just too "boxy and rough" for my taste. The Nomad has nice smooth G-10 which is great for pocket carry, but still affords a decent grip when handling. Go with the Nomad.

Having owned both, I also say go with the Nomad. Not only is it better looking than the mini-Strider, it cuts better, it's more "rust resistant" and is much more comfortable in the hand. You'll also be amazed at how sharp that VG-10 blade is.

Nomad.

I've handled/fondled the Buck-Striders (except the SBT.4) and were less than totally impressed. They are solid users, don't get me wrong, and Buck is a great company....but they're rather "rough around the edges."

The Nomad's much more refined, and will not give anything up in ter,s of function that I can see -- unless your sole intent is to pry stuff, in which case the Buck-Strider tanto *_may_* be a better choice (in which case the locking integrity and consistency of the Buck-Strider would have to be examined, and in this respect, it's hard for any production liner-locker of this price bracket to beat the Nomad).
