Chooseing the right Becker

I am trying to pick the right blade to finish off my "pack set". I have a Leathermen, BRKT Gunny and a Hawk. When I'm out playing in the woods I have found that it seems , to me any way, that I am missing something.

I have been looking at both ESEE's and Becker's, either in the end will cost me about the same with getting grips and sheath. Becker's having more options in the 5-10" range. I figured I would come over and see what you BeckerHeads thought, BK 2, 7, or 9? Or is there one that I haven't seen that would fill this spot better?

Thanks for any help.

Key question here is: What do you want to do with it?

I love my bk2, it seems to do just about everything perfectly for me. i can baton enough firewood for myself, and paired with a good saw, it is an unstopabble combo. if your someone that, likes to process bigger diameter logs in the woods, then maybe you want the 7, but if your only looking to do 3" or so logs, i think this is the knife for you.

I say, go with the 7. With the tools you got listed, it seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle.

For its size and weight, you can't beat it for versitility. From making fuzzys to splitting wood, it will support you and look good doing it. :D

What am I looking to do with it? Well that kind of the kicker here, I really don't know. I'm trying to bridge the gap between my Hawk and my Gunny. So it should prolly slice better than the hawk and chop/split better than the Gunny. In general use it will prolly be a light chopper, draw knife, fire steel striker, and most anything else that I don't want to use the Gunny or Hawk on. Not that the tools I have cant or wont do the jobs, it just feels like there is something between the 2 that I am missing.

Sounds like the 7 is your choice then. I would have said 9, but with a hawk that 's kinda redundant(that's not bad in the sticks though)I have no idea what a BRKT Gunny is, but the 7 should fit.

I don't really know the two knives you mention. Had to Google them.
Moose's advice seems sound. Go with a 7 for something in between.

Just a fair warning. If you add a Becker to your mix, it is constantly going to be complaining to the BRKT about unpaid royalties. :D

Here's a 7 paired with a 9.

The BRKT Gunny is my 3 3/4" razor, its like a small Bravo 1. I agree redundancy is not always bad, I like redundancy in my blades to an extent. That is why I"m looking for a 4th blade for the pack, do I need it? No.

The thing to keep in mind is the BK7 is a man's knife. If a woman uses it her hands will smell like testosterone when she puts it down.

if you want extra special, buy the BK5 :)

I actually have to agree with this 110%.

The BK7 is my favourite Becker at the moment. I say go for it.

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago and opted for the 7. No regrets I love the damn thing now with just a few days to play with it.

... Well as it turns out I have a buddy that was holding out on me, he has a BK 2,5,7, and 9 that I didn't know he had. So to the point, I played them in the back yard with them for a little wile. Well as it was said here the 7 feels like the step that was missing. I have to order one up now, he wouldn't sell me his, and the micarta grips.

It re-enforced that I don't like the sheath it comes with. is there some were that "stocks"? a kydex or good leather sheath for it?

Thanks for the help.

I'd send you a link to a good sheath deal (can't post it here), but your email is turned off.
