Hey guys,
Just sold my custom sword away and am missing it. Need a sword but want to stay away from that 4 to 6 thousand range. Looking for an awesome Katana for under $1,000.00. Now I have two in mind. I want to know from any of you guys who have handled them or owned them what you think of their quality. And if you know of any other resources where I might find a better or equaly fine weapon. First off is the Cold Steel Katana which can be viewed here: http://www.coldsteel.com/index-b.html and the other is the Criswell Katana which can be viewed here: http://66.147.4.244/criswell-swords/criswell.htm . Now I own a Criswell short sword and I must say that little thing was an awesome buy for the money. I have beat that thing to death and it is still in awesome shape. I have had not a single problem out of it. The only thing I would change about it is that I would make the handle all micarta rather than cord wrapped. But that has nothing to do with the function and strength of the piece. Just personal preference. But the cold steel swords... I have grown to respect cold steel some what. They make a fairly good knife. I have owned them all at one time or another. They make a durable knife that would last for a lifetime under normal conditions. However I've seen them snap before. So they are not say a Busse. But I know they are a great product. But these swords they offer are not made by Cold Steel. They are made in China. Something like a Paul Chen I would guess. So though Cold Steel is backing this product it is not a true Cold Steel Product. Now the first few that this forge in china crafted for them may have been bang up sowrds. But what about once they go into mass production. Will that level of quality be maintained. Unlike Criswell who stays hard at work making his swords cause he loves it. For Criswell it is a labor of love so every Blade is important in its' turn out. Cold Steel although may be offering a fine weapon is still a mass production setup and each sword is just a number. It is hard for me to get straight in my head that the least expensive of the two might be the better sword. That's why I am asking you guys who may have handled them to toss in your two cents. Thanks.
