Choosing a Model Based on Handle Size

I want to get an ESEE but have never had the opportunity to handle one. I'm thinking either the 4, 5, or 6.

An important consideration to me is handle size. I have large hands plus both thumb joints have been surgically fused solid with the addition of a dozen titanium screws. So having a handle that feels good in my hand is a big plus.

Looking at the pictures on the internet hasn't really given me a comparison of handle size until I saw this post by shotgunner11:

This pic would indicate that the differences between the models are huge.

So I'm trying to guess which is which from that pic. I'm guessing (from left to right) that the second one is the 6, the third one is the 5, and the fourth one is the 4, is that correct?

Has anyone else with large hands made a choice based on handle size? What did you choose?

TIA

i have a 3, a 4 with custom scales, and a 5. I'm 6'2", 220 and m favorite in my hand is the 4 with custom scales. However, if i had to assume, the custom scales on the 4 make the handle feel more like the 6...

with that said...i still love the way the 5 feels in my hand...

if i were you...i would decide which blade thickness you want first. if you dont need a 1/4" thick blade then your real decision is going to be between a 4 and a 6.

and if that is the case, a normal 4 handle is going to be smaller than the 6's.

I would recommend the 5 or 6. I own a 4 and have fairly large hands also.
The handle on the 4 is just a bit too short and as such just never really felt comfortable to me. One of these days I'll get around to trading up to a 6.

Dale @ The Knife Connection has those aftermarket G-10 scales. They are thicker and contoured, where the original RC4 handles are flat and a bit thin.
I'd say your gonna want the 4+scales, or the 6. Unless of course, your set on the 5. I have a 5, but it's not my go to for most cutting tasks.

Good call on the 6p.I have relly large mitts and the 6 handles fit me better than the 4.

Thanks guys. Great information. I just ordered the 6P.

Perfect. The 6 is big enough to chop with and small enough for fine work. It is light, easy carrying, and has a nice size handle for those with big hands.
