Hey a friend of mine (I know what you're thinking, not me) is looking for a relatively cheap knife (Around 40 or 50 bucks, maybe lower  ) I've been talking to him about benchmade in general, and he wants to try them out.

Now he would use the knife for the same uses as me; camping, fishing, wittling...outdoor stuff primarily. He told me to find one for him and the lowest i could find for him, not mini, would be like an ambush, because you can find one for a lot lower price than on the actual site. I am thinking that Benchmade is not hte best company for his price range.

Can anyone recommend a brand that would be best suited for him? He wants an inexpensive knife, but not a cheap one (or owuld hte ambush be his best bet). Again, outdoors stuff, around 40 dollars. Thanks.

The Camillus EDC in 154CM comes in at between $40 and $50 IIRC. It is a great knife for the money.

Also check out Spyderco for the Endura and Delica as both can be had for $40 to $50.

Lastly the old standby Buck 110.

My first choice would be Spyderco, but Camillus and Buck also have some good entries in that price range.

For about $60 he could get a BM 551 Griptilian. Twist his arm and make him cough up that extra $10. He'll thank you later.

I second Spyderco's in FRN. There are quite a few in the 40-50 dollar range.
I would add the Calypso Jr FRN (about 40.00) to the list of options.

Spyderco Native II. Better steel you won't find for $60. If that's too much, a black bladed Delica in VG-10. (Black blade only because it's a limited edition knife that comes in VG-10 instead of the regular in ATS-55, which isn't a bad steel either.)

FRN Spyderco (Delica, Endura, Calypso jr., Native)
The BM Pica is not that expensive either.

All Delicas come now in VG-10... even the SS models :D
Otherwise, I agree with you, ATS-55 is a great steel.
