Choosing first Tomahawk: Cold Steel Trail Hawk or Pipe Hawk

I made a previous thread but I changed the topic so many times it became a mess, so I'm starting over.

My girlfriend is getting me a Tomahawk for our anniversary (I'm getting her throwing knives). After much debate I found that the Cold Steel Tomahawks are within her price range while affording for a spare handle or two, or maybe a sheathe. I've owned 2 cold steel products for 5 years now :http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/80PGTK/G_I_TANTO_W_SECURE-EX_SHEATH.aspx and http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/97MKM/MAGNUM_KUKRI_MACHETE.aspx

I find that after trying casually (very casually) off and on throughout the years to get the hang of throwing the GI Tanto I have found that I can throw my Magnum Kukri Machete with much more success even though I have much less experience with it. I hardly ever stick the GI Tanto, but within less than an hour I was sticking the Magnum Kukri the majority of the times I threw it. I thought I'd throw this in as maybe it says something about me that will help with my decision on a hawk.

I'm 6 feet tall with a 6 feet wingspan. I'm not all that muscular, but I'm not scrawny either. I can sweep my 110 pound girlfriend off her feet without much issue, but nothing really above 130 pounds.

I'm planning to use this Tomahawk for throwing, breaking down limbs that fall off of trees in my yard, chopping down woody brush too thick for the Machete, and just general dinking around my yard and woods for fun.

I decided on a hawk with a hammer poll after I saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pvv97vPLHk (at 4:22 is the part that convinced me to get a hammer polled hawk. He makes a new handle using only the hawk head and the hammer poll is handy for batoning for that task.) I figure I might craft my own handles from timber in my yard to use while learning to throw, or to replace the hickory handle if I break it and need a handle while I wait for a new one to arrive.

The big differences I've heard and read about are that the Trail Hawk has a thinner blade that gets stuck more often and has a shorter cutting edge making it harder to hit with, but it is lighter, while the Pipe Hawk has a thicker blade and better blade to eye transition that helps it split stuff better, and it has a significantly longer cutting edge. The downside of it is that it is heavier.

I guess the pipe hawk would outright win out if I wasn't concerned about the extra weight, or unless someone can make some other arguments in the Trail Hawk's favor.

Sadly I do not know of anywhere around me that I could go handle one of these hawks. There might be a few shops an hour south of me in the cities, but I hate city traffic and street layout, and a lot of those shops can be sketchy. I'll have to try and rely on input from people who've own these hawks themselves.

If there is any other info about me that would help determine which might suit me better just ask.

Also, I already did a search on here and read quite a bit of stuff on these things.

Look around online and you find them both for a little over $20 a piece. That being said, if the $40 rule you posted about in the previous thread isn't hard and set you could get both.

Personally, the only Cold Steel 'hawk I own is the Rifleman's Hawk. So I can't comment about the weight of either the Pipe or Trail Hawk.

Well, I went ahead and had my girlfriend order the Pipe Hawk yesterday. That, a sheathe, and a lansky's dual grit sharpening puck. We also decided on getting her 3 Cold Steel Pro Flight Sport knives. Now we just wait. The knives get here on Wednesday, but the hawk still hasn't shipped out yet.
