Beautiful. Looks somewhat like a short Falcata. The blued flats/patina'ed bevels just bring it together. Never thought of using two different finished on one blade.

Thanks man, It does bring it together doesn't it. I just wish I could have got the blueing to go on even. It's blotchy but cold blueing is really only for small touch ups and even then it's not very good.

To be honest with you man I haven't got enough experience to say but this is what I did.

I did the heat treating in my coal forge. Because of the long soak time it needs I used a crap load if flux to prevent scale. Did my normalizing cycles and then hardened it in canola oil. I tempered at 450 for three, two hour cycles. It warped a bit after everything was done so I tried using the dowel/vice trick and it would just spring. It's still got a slight warp but now that the handle is on you can't see it. I then took the oxy acetylene torch and drew the temper to a blue down the spine, just to prevent it from cracking.

Time will tell if it will work well. I'm sure it will, before my friend gets it I want to chop up some 2x4's.

Thanks for all the nice complements everybody. It really means a lot to me!

No problem man! Thanks for the compliments!

Well I got it to a hair popping razor last night and started the tests. I chopped up some paper, brass rods, annealed 01 and chopped up a 2x4. The edge had no chips or nicks in it and after I cleaned it off on my pants it still shaved :) it's very comfortable to hold and swings very well. I would have to say that this was a successful heat treatment. I showed it to my friend (the guy buying it) and he fell in love. He chopped up another 2x4 and couldn't stop smiling :)
