Looking for a bigger blade that can handle heavy use chopping and batoning.

Options I'm considering are:
BK4 and ESEE junglas

Handled the BK4 and was ok with it. Not sure how it will hold up with batoning. Seems great for chopping.
Never handled the Junglas. I know it will baton well but not sure how it will chop.

The BK4 is half the price of the junglas now.

Thoughts? Any other recommendations? Looking to keep it under $150.

I like the Beckers myself. I have a BK9 which is a great chopper, and it still amazes me how sharp and knifelike it can be. Between the two you listed I would choose the BK4, but would choose the BK9 over the BK4 because I think it has more utility as a knife.

I own neither, but handled the Junglas and it is SWEET. Even tho its pricier, i believe the warranty is better, so id go that route.

I really like the Beckers alot, but would spend the money on something with a better warranty. Ka-Bar specifically states theirs will not cover batonning.

Ontario marine bowie. Kabar heavie bowie. Ontario rtak 2. I've used each extensively and they are great choppers.

The total package (considering sheath, handle materials and warranty as well) of the ESEE Junglas is unprecedented and unbeatable for that kind of money, in my humble opinion. In other words: there are no other options that give you that much blade length, micarta handle scales, a great kydex sheath and if-you-break-it-we-fix-it no-questions-asked perpetual warranty for that kind money.

I find knives easier to use and transport and much more useful. :p

I agree, and knives are more elegant :D

I have used my Junglas for a few years now and couldn't agree more with Jeru's statement.

I've used the Junglas extensively. Processed a whole weekend worth of firewood and kindling THIS weekend with it. Cleared and chopped some brush around my deer stands with it and then cut up lunch TODAY with it. You can see the marks from the batoning and chopping and the grease near the tip from the summer sausage. Weird long story but it was the only blade I had with me.

How about a Condor Mini Duku Parang... 10.5 inches and built for such tasks

You'll be hard pressed to find a better chopper/batoner than the Junglas for under $200. Even comes with an amazing factory sheath and the best warranty

Love my junglas my favorite knife great chopper and lifetime warranty that follows the knife so you could buy a used one and still be covered
