Chopping with the older Tigershark

got me an old Tigershark. It chops just fine. Better than fine. Superb for what I've needed to chop.

I've never used any of the other knives mentioned so I can't provide either objective or subjective opinions and or commentaries.

Cheers,

Carl

The old tigershark is a gem. They won't bring it back as the current line is not a Seki product. The blades are being crafted in, you guessed it, China. I'd hold on to the old tiger. Quite a great design and a superb classic.

Wasn't that an SK-5 Tigershark and not AUS6A as he claimed? The old tigershark with the carbon steel SK5 blade is one of my all time favorites. Joe

I do not know where you got your information but it is incorrect. The Tigershark is still produced in Seki and not China as you claim. I think that you should check you facts before making wild accusations.

The only SOG knives that are produced in China are the Fusion line and they are clearly marked as such.

Correction. Tigersharks (for now) are being produced in Seki. The popular Trident is being fashioned in Taiwan. The newer Tridents are of thinner stock than the older Seki blades. The bowie knife which the marine corps fell in love with is also not the same, much to the chagrin of many collectors and military types.

All in all, SOG makes well designed, quality cutlery.

I wish SOG would make more knives out of Carbon steel. I use my SK-5 Tigershark in the kitchen a lot. Sometimes I call it my Cleaver. :D

Sorry if I classified the steel wrong during the test. I couldn't remember. I bought it about 15 years ago. If it is SK5 then then I have much more respect for it since I
don't like AUS6.. The knife is very easy to sharpen unlike AUS6..so I was wondering a little about this.

I still have the cardboard sleeve..it says it's made of carbon steel.

Noss4, Sorry to hear about your injuries. I hope you are healing up ok. Considering the facts, it's a wonder you weren't injured worse. Good luck, Joe

The Mastiff: Thanks, it could have been much worse. I used up some of my luck this time around.

Did Noss accidentally cut himself or something?

***EDIT: Just read about Noss's injuries elswhere.
Hope he gets well soon!
