Over the weekend, I was hiking one of my favorite trails in the area (Grandfather Mountain) and once again had forgotten my walking stick(s). Lucky for me I happened to be carrying my ZT NO on my belt
). Yes, she is a user and has the rust spots to prove it. I found a downed branch about the right size and went to work the branch was about 2-2 1/2 inches at its widest/thickest part. I'm not sure what type of wood it was.(my scout leader would be so ashamed). Anyway. I could get a good swing by using a three finger grip. It choped quite well for a 6" blade (the legal limit on this particualr piece of private real estate). I wasn't wearing gloves and the rear hook did bite my hand a little bit, but I just had to adjust my grip and not let it slide so much on the down swing. In a little less than five minutes I had a servicable walking stick that I kept whittling and shaping when I rested. Seems like every time I go out I forget my stick, but not my Busse....
To make a longer story short. We need a Combat Grade Natural Outlaw in 3/16th, but until then I'm grateful for my ZT NO and think it is a great choice when that is the legal limit
The satin finish is very succeptible to rust. I'm scared to look at it after carrying under my sweaty jacket for several miles and several hours, but man ain't that satin finish pretty.....
Kudos to Jerry and Company on a great blade made by accident. The ZT NO feels better in my hand than any other 6" blade I've ever handled or used in 15 years+. I've already tried the regular NO and thought it was too thick and too heavy for a 6" blade, but I'm reconsidering...
