Chopweiler or ASH-1

I have held both, and IMO I prefer the CW hands down. The blade of the ASH-1 is to wide (spine to edge), and the blade stock is to thin. Now I should say I am referring to the feel of a ASH-1 2007 SE, and I don't know if there is going to be a diff in the production run, ie. blade thickness. With all of this said though, I will still take the CW over any knife in this medium size range. The Chopweiler is a knife.

Russ, I don't know what the ASH-1 is. But I do know I had one of the first run Ratweilers and like a big dummy, traded her off. I now have a black Chopweiler and shes staying put. I tell you how much I like her, I'm selling my unused Ranger RD9, satin w/G10 to make room for her.
Call off the dogs...my search is over.

The chopweiler is definitely a great knife, but altogether different from the ASH-1. Much bigger knife overall, definitely the winner if your comparison includes chopping.

Mid-range knives...

SR: Ratweiler, Chopweiler, Camp Tramp
Busse: SH-1, ASH-1, SJTAC, HR, SFNO, SHSH, SH-E, FSH

All good. All different. I have a CW on the way. I'll report back here when I can compare them in hand.

I never got a Camp Tramp but I bet the ASH-1 would look good and cut good for only twice the price.

Camp Tramp is a fantastic knife. I'll have my ASH-1 soon for comparison. :)

Yea, the Camp Tramp I still have never seen in person, but I bet I would like it. I have a Busse SH-E, a SH-E Variant, Chopweiler BLK & a Chopweiler SAGE, plus Old style BLK Ratweiler. If you figure a mid range being say down to 5.5" and up to 8", well I have the M-6, and just traded a Busse Satin Jack Urban, & HHFSH. Scrap Yards I have the Scrapper 6, Yard Hook and Yard Guard. I have others, but with respect to the Busse family I'm just listing there's that I have.
I just really like the feel, handling, balance point, and the weight. It to me is just a well designed knife, that's easy to carry to boot.
There are many I would have enjoyed handling/using but they are not in production, and/or I ain't that rich to go get every one I get a fancy for.
AGAIN, IMO and I'm only talking about the mid rangers. No pun on the RD-9 intended!!!!

Oh yea, I forgot my 2ea-HOGFSH

I see Jerry just posted that the CG ASH-1 is going to be .320" thick. OMG!!!!!!!!! That might change things, or maybe not. I'm feeling a migrain coming on, and a ruined C/C.

Here is a pic of them side by side.

And the winner is?

Chopweiler without a doubt. I think the .32 in such a short blade is going to make for a pretty poor cutter. Fat can be cool, but only when coupled with the right blade size. I love my CW and recommend it without reservation.
