Chosera vs Shapton for Edge Pro

Hey folks, I just purchased an edge pro after much debate on a sharpening system.

I'm looking to upgrade the stones though, and have read up as much as I could on the Shapton and Chosera stones for the EP, but I'm still kind of undecided!

Any opinions? I have heard the Choseras get quite muddy and can be pretty messy when compared to the Shaptons. Are the Shaptons as forgiving (skill wise) as the Choseras are? Can I jump from a 10k Chosera to a 16k Shapton, or is that even worth it? (I cannot spend ~$250 on the 30k... [why is it that much, btw?])

Thanks for reading!

Unless your buying the thick cut choseras from Ken i wouldnt touch them for the EP. I would go for the shaptons.

Also look at the grand unified grit chart. Their grit ratings arent the same.

The EP 30k is expensive because the fullsize 30k is what? $700? On my phone. But the fullsize ones are definately not cheap... Ken buys those and cuts them to size...

Thanks for the info, and wow - thanks for the tip on that grand unified grit chart! I was going by Edge Pro's chart, which is way off from that one.
Seems Shapton is a no brainer!

Now... Are these the Shapton glass stones or the Shapton Pro stones?
Only found the Shapton glass stones on Chef Knives to Go

I would definitely get the Pro stones over the glass stones. Just my preference.

Edge pro is on their third iteration of that chart and it still seems waaaaaaay off.

I noticed the Shapton Pro stones are considerably more expensive in the higher grits than the glass stones, and Chef Knives to Go sells only the glass ones - would I be missing out on something if I got them?
