Sal,
I read in an article in fighting knives (now defunct) written by Chris Caracci that he originally approached Spyderco for the production of his (then unnamed) AFCK. Can you add any more to the story?

BTW, thanks for all your time here on the forum.

I have that particular magazine and I just happened to reread that article to help with my decision in buying an AFCK, which I didn't by the way. Can't beat the Military.

I wouldn't mind hearing that story as well
What happened between you and Chris?
I like the design of the AFCK, I just don't feel good about buying Benchmade as their products are hit and miss at best. Never mind all the hoopla in the mags. I have trouble swallowing that hype anyway.

Thanks for all the great input and articles.

Greg - As I remember, the deal went sorta like this. Hey Sal, Chris Carracci has a design he'd like to show us. (Spyderco was about 20 people at the time). Knowing Chris and seeing his very good video ou our Police Model, I felt that it could be OK, but we were in the middle of setting up the new plant and we had more had 10 designs already waiting on tooling. We told him that we couln't do anything with him at the time.

Next I heard that Chris had designed the AFCK. I don't know who really "penned" the pattern.. Lester said it was a combination of people when I first waw it. I made a couple of suggestions (from a designers point of view), which Lester also added to the Design. Goddard says the the blade pattern is also similar to the Goddard in profile. Who's to say. Probably Lester knows the whole story.

I like the looks of the AFCK, it is flowing and beautiful in is line. For use, I prefer the high function ugly of The Military. Different strokes, that's what keeps the world from being boring. Hope that helps

Thanks for the update Sal.
I always say go with what you know. I know that with the Military you get a great knife that will do anything(within reason) that you ask of it. I've had one for over two years now and no complaints(except that damn two screw clip, it's on its way for repair by the way) other than that it has performed better than expected. With all the abuse I throw at it it still looks like new. That is one damn fine knife.

Now be honest, can you say that about an AFCK....? I didn't think so. I'll put my Military up against an AFCK any day.
Now I just have to be patient and await the return of my beloved knife.

Until then the Sebenza will have to do.
