I thought this forum would look at it more than the CRK forum.

I've been on the fence of gettinf CRK fixed knife for a long time, and Im certain of getting one for the final time

I love the looks of the blades on them, and would love to handle one.
I'm not looking for a one-piece knife though, so the list narrowed.

But, Im kinda leaning, because there were some infos that saying the endge were kinda brittle, not able to hold the edge well unless hit right.

Should I get a CRK or just ER knives?

Not sure I understand what you're asking...you're on the fence for a fixed blade, ok got that...but you are not looking for a "one piece" knife so the list is narrowed?

Chris Reeve fixed blades are as good as they get in the industry, so buy with confidence. Me personally, I like the Pacific model.

I was saying that Im not into the concept of one piece knife CRK makes, so knives like pacific, neil rober were ones that I wanted..

I was just curious, because saw someone saying they were too brittle. but thanks to you, I think I can get one without a doubt.

+1 ... Pacific is a sweet knife.

I think your concerns are legitimate, and I would heed them. I would also not choose CRK S30V for a field knife, although I love it in the Sebenza.

Tsiloics, thank you for a reply.
I want a knife that I would use regardless of how abusive it is, and I think in that case, ER would be more of lovely.
It's rare for me to use knife daily, but for some case that might happen, I dont want to take risk of failing the task.

ER= Extrema Ratio?

i like the crk fixed blades. i find the green beret has the most comfortable handle for me.

dont know much about er, ive only handled two. they seem like solid, well built knives.

what type of things do you anticipate doing with your knife?

He Morimotom, thanks for the answer.
Im willing to do anything that I think is necessary to use knife that I buy, but not up to level where it's destruction, like the knifetest guy. But, I just want to use the knife with comfort that the edge wouldnt chip as to not knowing the level of work the knife can hold. I may use it to botton, may use as hammer if exact tool is not around, may use to cut boxes, may use to pry through stuff, but Im sure wont happen generally, may be few times, but I really want to have that high level of comfort, without worrying to buy another one, since it's pretty damn expensive($300~, alot).

My choice of maker for this sort of knife is Busse. Of course there are others, and of course opinions vary. Not trying to start trouble, just stating my opinion, in light of O/P.

There is no question that CRK's S30V straight knives are finely crafted... I would certainly say more so than anything Busse ever produced. For a hard-use all-arounder, I'll take INFI. I've said why numerous times... we've all taked our way 'round the issue, no need to rehash here.

tsiloics is correct. while very nice knives, i dont think the crk s30v fixed blades are what you are looking for based on this response.

if you are prying or hammering you run a high risk of chipping.

a busse (family) is probably more suited to your needs.

check the exchange for busse combat, swamprat, or scrapyard knives.

or take a look at the rat cutlery line. also very nice and wont break the bank.

I agree with the above, and understand that this is only my opinion----

CRK offers an extra edge of indestructability with his one piece knives, if I was looking at a knife with scales, I would look at Busse.

If you just have to spend that much money, go ahead, but Morimotoms suggestion of a RAT is a good one.

Thank you guys, for helpful answers. I thought about Busse myself for few minutes while ago, but I thought ER and CRK could hold on as well. well, I will consider this question myself again before I purchade my blade. thank you guys, very helpful.

Don't feel that you have to spend X ammount of dollars to get a good knife, you may very well be able to get a 100 dollar knife that will outlast you.

Be realistic with your expectations, and your intended usage, and you may save a buck or two;)

Thanks Chuck, that helps me a lot. I know that x amount knife=best doesnt apply, but wanted something that seem impossible to break, and I guess the price range of CRK and ER got me into them. But I think I know what to buy now for sure. thank you.

I have a CR Green Beret with S30V and have ZERO issues with the blade or edge retention! The knife is great except I wish CRK would have deleted the center finger groove. But I'll live with it. The knife has been with on several camping trips already this year and I love it!:D:thumbup: As for the ER, I have a Shrapnel and it also is a very high quality knife I give high marks too. It's smaller than the CRK but it has been the perfect backpack or "BOB" knife for me. You can't go wrong either way. I have NO problems with the N690C on the ER.
