Any thaughts out there reguarding the asthetic value of Chris Reeve embellishments? For myself I think they run toward hokey.

How did you come to that conclusion that such embellishments are, in your own terms, "hokey"?

Personally, I own an African Blackwood Large Classic Sebenza and I particularly like the "form" of the knife.

I won't even go into the "function" as it's been stated over and over just how functional the knives are (well, once you get over the concept of actually USING something that costs over $400 USD.)

If you're referring to the standard Sebenzas with the anodized handle graphics, I suppose that could be "hokey" but it'd depend a lot on what sort of graphic you got. It's really a matter of personal taste, of course, and you have the option of getting the wood inlays instead with a Classic or using any graphic you choose.

I haven't seen many of the designed handles that appeal. OTOH the wood inlays are nice and make the handles somewhat rounder and, to me, they feel better. I added some Silky Oak onlays to my Sebenza and really like it much better.

You title this thread 'Form vs. Function', then ask about thoughts out there regarding the aesthetic value of embellishments..
What has embellishment to do with form or function?
Because you don't like the looks, this make the knife not feel right in your hand, or does it inhibit the cutting ability?
Off topic in your first sentence...
Back to the OT question... I don't care for some of them, and like some of them, especially the one with the dry fly on it, but all of them have fine form and function as advertised...

He may be talking about the embellishents that are not factory. In that case I would agree alomost 100%. Some people likes sebs to look like "Bordello Bowies" but not me.

I doubt there was any interest in the title subject, or even the embellishment question...
I think you are giving him undue credit, Dave.
I do agree with your thoughts, though. I like them simple, if not plain.
